Default Tire and wheel size change

i have a 3.73 with 20 inch wheels running 275 tires. The 3.73 helps but feel it could be better with performance. Looking around to swap and I've had a couple of responses but not much. Diameter between 265 18 aren't that much diff but weight is probably much diff. Would something smaller than an 18!inch be advised to see a diff in power? I'll be doing some towing so less diameter is better I hear. One thing about a smaller diameter is it already looks like I have a large gap between top of wheel and wheel well. Not sure if the Texas edition Silverado makes any diff

Swapping to a lighter wheel/tire combo won't make giant leaps in horsepower but it will sure help with unsprung rotating mass. Just getting 20lb's off per corner can surely help the vehicle perform better.

Tire height between the 275/55/20 and 265/65/18 is about 1in or so, I think it's 31.9 to a 30.8in tire. Just lower the truck if you want to remove some of the wheel gap. A free mod is removing the rear lift block on the rear axle, you'll drop the body down roughly 1.25in or so to level out the rear with the front.

is lowering a good good idea with towing?

Thanks!

Depends on how low you want to go. A certain point you'll want to have helper bags for towing.

I lowered my 2012 CC 1.5/3in and still have plenty of room between the bump stops and axle. I just cut the bump stop in half after lowering to give me my room back. I hate lifted trucks and big tires so I went the other route and made my wheel gap less for a cleaner look.

I should've went with a 4.10 so I could move up in tire size to fill the gap

An aftermarket quality forged wheel will offset weight of 20 rims, but if you are talking big tires that will be the biggest killer of hp and mechanica leverage.

just get a blower and do both what i did.
