Default Pinion leak/whine/howl

As the title says,

On my way to work, it starts whining/howling/roaring really bad. I get it to work and as soon as I get out of the truck, I smell diff oil.

Get my flashlight out, and I see diff fluid dripping from the pinion.

I know everyone touts TruTrac's and all but I'm looking for budget options. I still have the G80 in it.....right around 190k.

My luck, the inner pinion bearing is bad and the diff has to come out and if that happens, I might as well swap the G80. Labor wise it's not going to cost anymore.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Ive had an eaton posi in my 99 for well over 10 years and never had a problem with it. Also had an auburn posi in my 86 k5. Have also known a few people that have run the yukon duragrip with good results... as far as i can tell they are all right at $450-500, so take your pick!

If youre doing it or buying parts yourself NAPA has a full install kit that includes all shims, bolts etc. for right at $100, wanna say i paid 113 w/tax!

Thanks guys. Depending on what the shop tells me I may be doing a rebuild, if the carrier has to come out along with wheel bearings.

And if that happens, 4.56s are going in along with a locker.

I hate Summit Racing. It's about an hour from me. Lol

Update.

Mechanic called me to tell me that along with the pinion bearings being shot, the g80 Spider gears are missing teeth.

I wasn't going to swap the diff but being that the spider gears are broken.....TruTrac will be here tomorrow morning. Hopefully I'll get it back tomorrow afternoon.

Update:

To add to the carnage, the cause of the problems were due to a pinion nut coming loose and from there, things went south.

Got it back yesterday, it drives different and definitely hooks up different. It does feel a ton better though.
