Default Picked up my new Tranny last night.

Well after doing my 80e swap back in June. I installed it and knew I was sold a lemon. It came out of a 1997 98 2500 pickup. Instantly had no reverse after the install, and felt like it was in limp mode 2nd gear. After the retune, my tuner got it where it was live-able but no reverse still.

I said F-it, got my money back for it and kept the tranny. I then drove cross country 3000 miles climbing hills all why towing a vehicle more than my own truck, and bigger! When I made it to my destination, Ive been driving the **** out of the tranny still.

Within the last week or 2, I notice its slipping more and more in the forward gears, as I only got 210 miles a FULL TANK!

Last night I went ahead and purchased a damn near NEW 4l85e out of a 2007 express van with the diesel engine. I have the original title the vehicle came out of, and everything seems to check out okay. The tranny has 25K miles on it.

It will be going behind my 04 VMAX. Hopefully sometime this weekend.

I notice, the wiring seems to be different as well.

This should be the last trans swap I do for a long time. And the lemon 80e trans is so much better than any built 60-65e I have en-counted. Just thought I would share.

My final gear ratio will be 4.88s

I really did not want some hoot in the wood rebuilder, unless you get it rebuilt from the best on here. But I had to have something straight from the General un-abused.

85e is installed, and IMO its smoothe. I also run 2 of the largest size trans coolers, in with the stock radiator. That is how I cool this stall converter. My impressions of the 85e is nice, and the winding when I get into it sounds aweome. like a Jet. wines out stronger then the 80e. It feels so good to have a good tranny.

How or where do you go about finding one in decent shape? just keep searching wrecking yards till you come across a low mileage one? I'm in the market for one too so any tips are appreciated.

I get lucky at these sorta things, but I found this one on Craigslist. Went to the guys shop, checked it out, parted the tranny the same night, got the tittle to verify the VIN and the mileage, and swapped that puppy in 2 days. This guy had paperwork.
