Driving in 4WD with no rear drive shaft?

Driving in 4WD with no rear drive shaft?
I have a 97 Tahoe with a 4L60 E in it and I was wondering if I removed the rear drive shaft from the tranny could it be driven on the street in 4 wheel high? This is asumming that I put something over the hole so tranny fluid will not spill out. Thanks

if you dropped the drive shaft on the street and had no other way then i would say yes. no fluid should come out. but i dont advise that you do it for too long. plus your steering is going to go down the drain.

well I didnt say because I figured you guys would know that I either had a rear end or drive shaft problem. I have a broken ring and pinion and I have already driven the truck on the street in "front wheel drive" in 4 wheel high but the pinion bearing is bad and the head on the pinion is broken off so anything above 35 mph is shaking really really bad. It started by me getting on the high way. I could go up to atleast 45ish before fine in 4 wheel high with the back end not engaged. Thanks

I drove my truck for about a week in front wheel drive when my G-80 gave up, I just removed as much of the broken crap I could out of the rear-end, left the rear drive shaft in, and also replaced all the bearings in the rear-end too.
And talk about torque steer............................
