Delayed 1-2 shift - 4l60e
I have a 4l60e with 162k on it. I figured its time for a new tranny but I wanted opinions here before I decide. The tranny feels strong and all shifts except the 1-2 is smooth.
What happens is it feels like the tranny hesitates and doesnt engage second when its supposed to, this in turn causes a little bit of an aggressive shift as it drops it into gear at the wrong RPM. I have read that this is a characteristic of a 4l60e, but I disagree. After researching on here, all I see is everyone talk about ways to increase shift firmness (servos, shift kits, tuning the tranny) but I actually want to soften that shift back up and make it feel stock as its my DD. Not actaully soften it, just make it shift at the right moment. I should point out that under WOT it feels just as it should. Also, when I bought the truck it had over 3 quarts too much fluid in it. I immediately drained it and changed the filter, the fluid looked fine. I now have the proper amount of fluid and it feels much better, but still not right.
Any chance my tuner could fix that shift or is this tranny toast?

Upon further experimenting it only shifts rough/delayed if I'm under 2000 rpm when it wants to shift. Could there be a tune on this truck or something? Gonna go to my tuner tomorrow...

I'm guessing at 162k it's starting to show some signs of wear. The one in my Yukon is starting to do the exact same thing at low (less than 2500) rpm on the 1-2 shift. No issues at higher rpm/throttle or other gears.

I would like to know if there is an adjustment that can be made to fix it. Like you said it only happens at low engine speed so I'm assuming low line pressure but not sure of that.
