Default Cost for Rear Differential Rebuild

Hello - my truck is in the shop now - having the tranny rebuilt - and I'm being told the rear end needs new gears which wouldn't surprise me, it has 240k on it, and the rear end maintenance has been sparse. They quoted me $300 for the gears, $150 for labor. Is that a fair price?

I have a 2004 Silverado 5.3L Z71 with locking rear differential. I know I see some rebuild kits for rear diff cheaper, but don't know if it's different for the locking differential and what all the kits include.

Input is appreciated!

Have them put in higher gears (numerically) and a detroit trutrac.
That stock locking differential has a reputation of grenading. Pricing doesnt sound bad.

If they will do the swap for $150 if you provide the gears and install kit, then that's a good price.

No need to change the diff or change gear ratio unless you need/want to.

Yes that's a good deal. You may want to consider a different Locker as mentioned.

Let the Shop supply the parts. That way if there is an issue they will be responsible for it.

If you buy the parts and they fail your on your own.
