Power Handling really depends on the setup and the weight of the vehicle.
I think Jakes use to sell a rebuild kit with his suggested parts.

What kinda power are you looking to make and what kinda truck?
It doesnt take all that much of special parts for a 4L80 to hold some power.
Most the turbo trucks ive done were just a simple rebuild with a concoction of a shift kit and then adjust tune accordingly with a pressure gauge connected.

A stock rebuild with the dual feed direct mod and valve body reprogram should hold the proposed power in a reg cab. If you are going for a drag setup, adding a trans brake and supporting hard parts would prove beneficial. Of course there are lots of tips and tricks for the rebuild that improve reliability and there are a multitude of threads documenting them. Do a search here and on LS1Tech and you will find all you care to read.

Stock rebuild with BW clutches with dual feed mod is about all it needs. Lots of info on rebuilding them on forums and YouTube. Pretty easy tranny to work on.

Depends on the application and how the 850 proposed whp is made. My opinion... Street truck with a turbo and street tires... wouldn't worry with upgraded shafts. Drag truck with transbrake, slicks and huge shot of nitrous on the hit... yep. Anywhere in between... your call.

650 hp in a pickup, the input shaft is a fuse. For the cost of an input shaft, there's no reason not to upgrade it.
you hardly ever have to worry about 4l80e output shaft. Stock outputs live north of 1500hp ALL the time.
Next failure point will be the fwd hub. they're usually OK in your application if not used with transbrake. If you plan to use a transbrake, I'd personally upgrade the hub

that's kind of what i was thinking since i was going to be in there anyways and there only like 120 bucks for one from sonnax, and there input shafts are like 300.
that's also one of other things i was also trying to find any info on. do you have to use a Manuel valve body in order to use a trans brake? iv tried looking but that's about the only thing i found.im not sure if im going to go that far into it as i still want to keep it a mostly street truck. but we will see how that ends up going...

Rebuild Kits ? Jake's Performance

You can do a manual VB but they make TBrakes that the trans is still computer controlled..
Most you just put it in manual 3rd and you can use the trans brake.
Others you put it in manual 1st and can use the Trans brake.

If you spend the money for a quality torque converter you dont "have" to get a trans brake. Ive got several 6.0 turbo trucks running low 6s and a couple in the high 5s leaving on the foot brake with 4L80E and 3.42 / 3.50 gears
