Thumbs up '00 1500 4x4 Trans Case Help??

What are the possibilities for upgrades or improvements on these cases other than a complete overhaul?

I like to improve on the design and reliability of anything I can if it lends itself to improvement and improved longevity.

Mine has approx 155k on it, hasn't been off road a dozen times in it's life and 4wd only gets used on snowy roads. Fluid changed every 12-14k, no noise or excessive felt lash, but I've got to believe in 155k there's got to be worn components that could use freshening up.

The trans is Sonnex/Oregon Perf and TransGo HD2 built with a CD 278mm converter that stalls at 3200. How much does the transmission brutalize the trans case?

Getting ready to do the PRC heads, headers, Comp high-lift truck cam and Colorado Perf. manifold and polished and flowed TB. Should add some significant wheel horsepower. I'm open for suggestions and advice.

FWIW....

Both rears are new 4.56's and Trutracs.

Just don't want the trans or T-case to pop like fuses under the newly added power of the fresh motor.

The only thing I would recommend is a pump rub kit for your transfer case. Repair any leaks, and fill with the appropriate fluid.

They handle quite a bit of power in stock form.

^^^ what he said. I had the pump work its way through and start leakin. Its a 75 to 150 upgrade and a half day of work with hand tools. Wish I had known that before the bastard ate through.

Roger that. Is there a part number associated with the kit? Sounds like the thing to do.

Can the gears be changed to deepen the ratio when in 4 Low by using parts from another t-case model? Just curious.

Thanks!

Adapt-A-Case | Fix the NP246 NP261 and NP261 GM T-Case Pump rub-through with BRNY

This is what I use. Inexpensive & works great. If you already have a hole, or the start of a hole, you can epoxy or JB Weld it, then install the kit.

When I was lookin I found all kinds of upgraded pump upgrades with alot of different inserts. Some kits were billet inserts with upgreaded pumps. I guess hiflow. The cost a few years ago was an average of 75 bucks. U can find all kinds of info. Type in ur tcase # and put in pump case upgrade

The one I listed works just fine. Billet & bling all you think you need to, they work just as well for more money. Nobody will ever see it. But I guess you can brag about it.

The one I listed usually sells for between $20-30, and many transmission shops keep them on the shelf.

Wish I had known about that before buying the Merchant Automotive kit. Oh well.

Oh yeah, no worries here. Some people just feel better when they buy "high end" stuff, and that's fine. But this inexpensive part does the same job just as well, for less money. I forgot to mention the value/price in my first post.
