Modifying returnless bucket for return
#12
Quick question, was I supposed to open up the bottom of the bucket at all to let fuel in? Or will it get drawn in there on its own?
Only reason I asked, was today I got in the truck to drive it, and hopped on the freeway. Kinda jumped in it more then I meant too, and it fell on its face, I saw out of the corner of my eye the fuel pressure dropped hard, like into the 20s, so I backed off the throttle ASAP. I haven't seen any leaks in the lines, line in the tank should be fine as I used crimp clamps, not to mention even when I shut the truck down, it holds 40psi in the lines for several minutes indicating it's holding pressure just fine I would assume.
Only thing I can think of is that either being the truck isn't tuned, it flooded itself out up top, or somehow my my fpr isn't working correctly? I'm running the regulator before the rails. Trucks runs great under normal driving conditions and even rolling into it up too a few lbs of boost it runs fine

It's right at a half tank. And this happened within a few seconds. I was doing about 65, got into the Throttle about 1/2, it dropped to second and jumped to about 5500 rpm, it fell on its face and I backed out. I tried to get it to do it again last night but it didn't do it.

Next time you have it apart you should try to take advantage of the stock venturi.
Check out the pic here:
Thats where the factory return dumped into after being fed into the regulator that was in the bucket. The brass fitting is to make it so you can attach your return hose.

Ohh, I was under the impression that the Venturi system will not work once the factory regulator is removed. So I just had the return dumping into the bucket to keep it filled. I do remember that when I sat the module back in the tank, even at an 1/8 full, fuel was already filling the bucket back up.

So I'm pulling the pump out tomorrow, currently an aeromotive 340 in there, installing a walbro 450. That's the only thing I can think that would cause an issue with fp dropping like that. The truck makes close to 600rw, and I've added a few lbs of boost since then, so maybe the pump is just out of breath.

I honestly don't even know how the factory Venturi system works, I know it draws fuel into the bucket, but I don't know how the return from my new system will keep that working. But I will try that!
