Default In line pump WITH in tank pump

Is it possible to run an in line pump while still using an in tank pump? Like a lift pump/pressure pump setup? Or would that suck the bucket in the tank dry?

Yes it is possible, and it works pretty good too.
I have a stock in tank pump with a Walbro GSL 392 inline pump on the frame rail.
I made 603RWHP and I'm still not out of fuel yet. I'm sure I'm pretty close but still not losing fuel pressure.

Yes you can do, no I would not recommend it. Far easier is to install a single larger pump in the bucket in the tank.

Why is everybody so against the inline pump idea? I've had 1 for years and have never had any issues.
Also, how is it easier to do a bigger in tank pump than just mounting an inline one on the frame rail and running 2 wires your done?
It seems like a much easier method on the older 99-01 trucks than trying to figure out the whole venturi or hacking up the bucket.

Because when you look at the flow data you dont get a whole lot for your money running pumps in series on these engines. The place where you would see an advantage would be little honda engines running 30psi+ of boost. You do get some flow improvement with series pumps, but not near as much as installing them in parallel or just a single higher output one. A walbro400 or 450 is about the exact same size as a stock pump, no hacking needed.

Read this if you get a free while and notice how flow changes with pressure https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...p-flow-510434/

Ok, I see your point. I've been trying to figure out how to make a Walbro 450 work in a 01 return style bucket for a while now. So as a temporary fix (band aid) I've been using the GSL 392 inline pump. But it works.

I know this is an old post but i was wondering if the inline pump will draw through a dead in tank pump?

Probably some but it won't be happy about it.
