Default Help needed, walbro 450.. please help...

I'm going to install a walbro 450 in my tank, the trucks an 03(return style). I have looked on here and thru google for the past 2 days. I know this has been gone over. I couldn't find the exact way that works, mixed reviews... I will be using the factory bucket, which was changed 2 years ago.

Now there is a few different ways to do it:

1. Cutting the bucket with the sock on the outside.

2. Do i put a sock on the pump inside the bucket and remove the stock sock.

3. Put the pump in without the sock and just let it draw thru the stock one...?

I did buy the racetronix harness for this swap so that parts taken care of. I also bought all the parts to run an aeromotive 13129 fpr and block off the stock one. I have all russell fittings and braided hose.

Use the sock with the pump, don't reuse the old stock one.

Yea, I did this all right after I posted and it has worked fine. The two drawbacks to it is after it sits it cranks a few times more before it fires since there is no check valve for the fuel to bleed back into the tank. The other is under a 1/4 talk if u launch it it starves. But those 2 are the least of my worries.

For the pump I pulled the old one out, opened up the venturi and pulled the lil plug out of the bottom. The 450 fits about perfect in the stock pumps spot. I had to trim a real small amount so the pump didn't pinch the filter too tight in the bucket when it snapped back together. From racetronix i also did buy a corregated pump straw, clamps, skinny walbro filter and also used the pump harness kit. I changed the stock fuel filter to a aeromotive 10 micron 200gph high flow filter. From there its a stock feed line to the passenger fuel rail and the rear drivers rail to a 13129 aeromotive regulator and to the return.

My tunes setup for a 50 psI base, at 12 psi I see 62 and no drop. Seems to work good so far, it's only been 3 months but so far so good. With meth now this trucks a total *******...lol...lol

Some of the Walbro check valves are better than others, the first Walbro 450 I had did not hold any pressure unless the motor was running. If you turned the key to the "on" position and didn't start the motor, it would go to 60psi and then immediately fall to 0. When I did my double pumper I put new pumps in and this one has a decent check valve in it. Most aftermarket pumps I've used, Walbro, Aeromotive, etc all have crummy check valves compared to the stock pump. The solution is just to cycle the key to "on" a couple times before you start the truck. Problem completely solved.

My walbro 450 primes to 50psi (base pressure) and will drop to 40psi but never hesitates to start. If I key on, and let it sit, it will drop to 0 within about 30min though.

i have pretty much the same set-up as yours but im thinking i have an issue somewhere. i have a 450lph in my 01 bucket and am using the stock lines up to the fuel rail. i have the factory regulator blocked off and an aeromotive adjustable regulator in line with the return lines but my fuel pressure has a huge constant fluctuation from like 40psi to 65 pis when the truck is running. any idea what might be causing the fluctuation?

That fluctuation isn't normal. I have a Fuelab and they even say in the instructions it's not made to hold pressure without pump running. Mine fires right away. As for the flux, that's odd. Where is your vac ref?
