91 F150 4x4, 5.0 any good?
I never thought I would buy a ford truck (no offense) but I came across what seems like a good deal from a friend of mine who needs money. I know my way around a car, but I don't know a thing about these 5.0's. Its a 91 f150 4x4. Just want to know if there is anything I should be looking for with 120,xxx miles on the clock. I'm going to check it out and drive it this weekend so I want to get an idea of what I'm up against. I will be using this truck for basic duties, daily driving, taking my dirt bikes out, playing in the dirt and such. I will not be towing with this as the 5.0 isn't rated very high. So if anyone can give me some insight on issues or things to look out for that would be great. Thanks

i wouldn't buy a ford personally (or new GM for that matter) but i especially would avoid the 5.0. the 5.4 Triton is not that bad. my stepdad has a 5.4 F150 and it's got 189k on the clock with a few problems. ask mustang guys about the 5.0 and you'll see why i don't care for it

just check to make sure it's been taken care of: check the belts, PS fluid, oil, tranny fluid, and the other preventative maintenance procedures. I see no reason why the truck shouldn't last at least a few years.

My uncle had the same truck. 5.0, RCSB, 4x4, etc...
Was a very good truck. Lasted a long time, I'm thinking 200,000+ miles before he sold it. I think the only "serious" thing he ever did was a clutch and replaced the valve cover gaskets, which were a pain in the *** because of the intake design and accessories... It got ok mileage, I think he averaged like 15 going back and forth to work, and he also put it through some pretty serious offroad use over the years.
If it's in good shape I wouldn't hesitate picking it up. He often regrets selling it.

the 5.0 is a great engine, has potential for good power if you know what your doing, for reliability they are good, the sbf design has been around since 1962 (221-260-289-302-5.0) my old bronco had a 5.0 and lasted 250k before i finally let it go, it could tow within reason
