Default Choice for fi Daily driver 370/402/408...Why..?

I plan to buy/build a new motor soon, I also thought about buying a long block so that's a thought too. The trucks a lifted 2500hd but still my daily driver. I'm looking for something that would work with my magnuson 1900 that would make decent power all around. I guess one catch would be tho that since i do have a smaller blower the boost levels won't be anything crazy. I plan on staying with the 1900. Right now its a stock bottom end 6.0 iron block with 317 heads, btr valvetrain and a cam motion cam. I have no idea what kind of power it makes..

I chose a 408, also with a 1900 blower. Mainly because I like to waste money, and the machine work from a 370 to a 408 is the same.

TSP has some very inexpensive rotating assemblies. All total, I am probably ~5500 into my LY6 based 408. Shooting for 700 on E

370. I choose the stock stroke for dependability/longevity.

Going to like a 403/408 on a stock block can hurt the pistons over time because the piston will rock in the bore.

I'd stay with a 370 or just make the 6.0 better with different compression/cylinder heads/camshaft.

And i thought this thread may not take any opinions, i appreciate the help. Speaking of that, searching I did also see that texas speed does a 364(stock ci) aluminum block with all the fancy parts. Its about the same as the 370 price wise tho. Any benefits to aluminum vs iron blocks..? I can see also for dependability/longevity to stay with 364-370. This i will buy with at least the rotating assembly done, who from i'm not sure. I'm going to do a built trans shortly....its has me thinking.

choose weight or strength. high boost, or heavy nitrous use get iron. moderate boost/nitrous aluminum is fine and will save roughly 80lbs off the nose of your truck.

Aluminum weighs less and cools better, but other than that I doubt you would ever feel the diff between iron and Al in a truck app

This thing has got to be 6500lbs plus after all the suspention work that was done. So the weight isn't a big deal, my blower is maxed at boost now. With a crank pulley and the 2.7 i see 13 psi at wot. So a little more hp would be nice but i don't want to loose the idea that i daily drive it.

.......Also tho what kind of power differance would a set of heads do compared to the stock heads..?

Heads are a huge performer. Depending on the head, you can see 100+hp.

Your engine is a pump, your heads dictate the flow. Bigger isnt always better however. Flow= HP Velocity= TQ

That said, 317s are considered the best Gen 3 head for big bores, and LS3/L92s are considered best Gen 4 heads. This is speaking strictly OEM

Put some CNC work on either and its a whole new animal

Aftermarket castings with CNC work and its no comparison

I would say a stock bore (or max 0.005 over) 364 or 402. Going big on the bore weakens the block more than adding those couple of inches helps. I had an 11:1 SCR 408 with a TVS1900 that only made about 7psi but man was it a torque monster and super fun to drive. Truck also weighed about 6500lb. I used some stock 317s with it also. 317s or L92s, either one is fine, but you need to match it to the lower blower tub you use.
