Default 2wd-4wd converters

is there a difference in the two converters? i know they are the same external but internal as in the stall speed. coworker was mud bogging in his truck and got little to happy and got it stuck in the mud all the way to the window, he said he gotten water in the tranny. and now its acting up and i think the converter messed up. would there be any problem using a 2wd converter in a 4wd truck?
