03 Ram 2500 5.7l New T Case Install, Park Grinding
Hey guys, I tried replacing a transfer case on a buddies truck this weekend and **** went south. Please share your thoughts.
2003 Dodge Ram 2500 4X4 5.7l NP271 t case floor shift, auto transmission.
Truck was driving perfectly fine, but the T case leaked all its fluid out and burned up. 4x4 didnt work anymore but truck still drove with no issues.
Got a rebuilt NP271 shipped to the house.
Unbolted the drive shafts and removed T case.
Installed the new one and bolted everything back together and added fluid.
Truck will not lock into any gear including PARK. Tried shifting it in and out of 4x4. The truck could be pushed no matter what. Felt like it was in Neutral.
Unbolted T case and set it aside. Installed the old one without connecting the driveshafts. Grinding noise was coming from the transmission.
Dropped transmission pan and replaced filters and fuild.
Re installed new T case and added fluid again. Bolted everything up and same issue.
I severely need help in figuring out what I should do next. Should I have hooked up the rear driveshaft when I reinstalled the old T case?? If the t case is off can the Transmission go into park? or any gear for that matter?
Every gear makes a quiet whinning noise and park makes a lound grinding noise like your locking it in while rolling 15 mph.
Thanks for your time! Please give me some ideas!
