My 99 was bare bones 4wd LS and had 3.73 gears from factory.... Alot of earlier 4x4 had 3.73s and some of the z71's had 4.10s

When I was researching options before I buying my truck I'm almost positive that at least on 4wd Z71 that 3.73 was standard with 4.10's optional. Of course we're talking about mid 2001 so it has been a few years ago.

Yes that is true for the early trucks but around 05 they forced that 3.42 gear on everyone, with the 4.10 as an option. I had a 2000 Z71 that had the 4.10's, and 33'' tires. Worked out really well; I loved that truck.

stock48, so you're just leaving it in 4wd for the entire pass now right?

Ive got a 96 silverado with turbo 5.3 that ive manully shifted into 2wd while under power but it has the np241 transfer case..im curious if ill have the same issues you had with yours

Yes I leave it in 4HI the whole run. Back years ago when I 1st started racing the truck I used to hit 2 hi right after launch and around half track it would come out. It was worth some MPH and ET but ended up killing shift fork in transfercase.

I wonder at what power level it's an issue? Obviously I've never made enough with a truck yet.

I think even at stock power levels you'll do a number shifting in and out of 4HI at WOT.

In my 07 must have done it 100's of times only out of 4wd never in. That was only 1.69 60' with probably 500whp though. Don't really know. Didn't have any issues but I guess I would have eventually. Just curious lol.
