Default Goofy aero question

I read somewhere on some forum where a guy took his inner fender wells out of his car and it made his car run a slower 1/4 mile time because for what ever reason the inner fender wells made his car more aerodynamic.

Now with that thought I just saw the Rough Country makes rear wheel well liners for older trucks like my 05 Silverado.

I was wondering if anyone had ever messed with closing up the rear wheel wells and if it made any difference in 1/4 mile MPH. I would assume it would also help with gas mileage also if it did in fact make a difference. Not that I care much about gas mileage myself.

here's a link for some.
Amazon.com: Rough Country - 4299 - Rear Wheel Well Liners (Pair): Automotive Amazon.com: Rough Country - 4299 - Rear Wheel Well Liners (Pair): Automotive
They are pretty cheap relatively speaking so it might be worth a try for somebody who runs the 1/4 mile often to give them a try and report the results. I'd do it if I ran my truck down the 1/4 on a regular basis.

I honestly can't see how that would benefit you from an aero standpoint
