old thread, but just to clear some stuff up, theres nothing wrong with the 53 block unless your looking to make big power, then it becomes weak..a small programmer and couple bolt on's and itll be a damn good work horse...just not a performer. itll be totally safe to push it to 500 or so. 700 seems to be the bad territory.
