Default 6.7 vs 5.9

I'm new to the diesel world and am trying to help my folks decide on a truck that would be used for towing a horse trailer among other things. Through some research I've seen that people have been having a lot of problems with the 6.7 and I'm wondering if those problems are still around in the new 08's or if they have worked out the issues? Would you recommend looking for an 06 or early 07 to stay with the 5.9? Any help is appreciated.

If it were me i would get a 5.9, tried and true. I dont think you will be disappointed, very stong motors that can take what you throw at them

Get an 05-07 5.9 common rail. Tough as nails and a lot cheaper and easier to make big power with compared to the 6.7.

5.9......so you can avoid the stupid emissions. Go get a Smarty and exhaust and have fun. BTW the 6.7's with DPF delete and good tune supposedly run as strong as LBZ duramaxes tuned

6.7 has tons more power out of the box. I love my 6.7, never had an issue with it, and it's just as reliable as a 5.9 with the emissions stuff removed.

I haven't even removed my emmissions stuff, just put an S&B airbox on and it's plenty strong.

24000 on the odo and counting... no emmissions problems yet. I probably drive a little harder then some though, tires on this truck (factory equipped michelin) won't make it past 40K I don't think.

I've read the new 6.7 cummins have a trans problem in either 4th or 5th gear once tuned, where you feel a "shudder". Haven't seen any fixes to it yet
