Default Picked up a new beater, 91 Sierra ECSB 4x4

Bought this truck off the original owner here in Salt Lake, 377k miles, fresh top end rebuild, tranny has been rebuilt, new power steering pump and lines, new fuel pump and filter and just over 6k miles on new tires. There is one dent by the cab corner on the passenger side and a couple paint chips. Overall the interior and exterior are in frat shape for it's age and mileage. NO rust whatsoever underneath. This guy really took care of his truck and it shows, you could eat of the underside of the truck. This will be a beater/work truck so no crazy mods, probally just a muffler, exhaust and tbi mods followed possibly by a tune if I can spring for ebl flash...

However, last night on my way home from work, I was cruisin down the freeway about 70 with cruise control on when out of NOWHERE my engine starts spinning up to 4500 or so, almost 5 grand. This truck is one of the few in 91 that had the factory tach so I know that. I freak out, shut off cruise and at this time I hear stuff kicking up underneath, so I think I just blew the engine. I start to pull over on to the shoulder and notice I still have oil pressure and I can rev the engine, with no knocks or unusual noises. I get out, look underneath and don't see any oil or tranny fluid, so I keep goin. I did notice the fuel filter is loose and leaking fuel so I'll need to tighten that up (po replaced filter when he did the pump). The rest of the way home I leave it off cruise and the engine revs fine, holds oil pressure no problem. Has anybody experienced this before in either a tbi truck or a newer one? I've never heard of this ever in any vehicle I've driven and the wierd part is, I used cruise on the way to work and had no problems.

I've never had this happen before, but could it be the tranny slipping? I know you said it was recently rebuilt, but maybe it got hot and started slipping.

I don't think it could have gotten hot enough to do that, I wasn't towing anything, no weight in bed, no aggressive acceleration, nothing. I was literally just cruising down the freeway. And the truck has the factory tow package that includes a tranny cooler

Oh and the filter is only leaking fuel from the side closest to the engine, so I'll either need to tighten it or check and make sure the o-ring I'd assume it has isn't pinched.

Went to the junkyard today and picked up a v6 intake tube, some new headlights and some other small parts. Was looking for a grille, but most were junk and I was outta time. What do you guys think would look better? A 94+ gmc grille in white, or I was thinking of changing everything over to an 88-93 chevy grille, horn button and then deleting all the badging off the sides and rear of the truck. Thoughts?

I'm looking at picking up some new wheels for this truck. What do you guys think would look great on the truck? Either a black aftermarket wheel (not sure which one yet-no douchy rockstars) or some factory 05-06 gmc 6 spoke 17" wheels?

I put a 94 grille on my 91 GMC and the thing doesn't have the right center mounting point in the middle of grille. I rigged mine but I know it's not proper.

I'd say get on tire rack and look at wheels, you can see them on the vehicle. What size are you thinking about?

I bought some factory 05+ 17 gmc wheels to put on once I get some tires for it. I haven't had much luck at the junkyard finding a good grille for this truck so I might just continue to look for a nice 88-93 grille. I went out to move the truck earlier and found it wouldn't start. I know the fuel pump works because I can smell fuel and see it leaking from the filter (previous owner didn't properly install ) haven't checked for spark yet but I will be doing that when it stops raining. I suspect it might be a cool. I can't remember if po said he used ac delco or an aftermarket (non msd) coil. We will see

Got the truck running again, went to work on it one day and the starter started making this horrible noise. So I said **** it and had it towed to a shop. The replaced the starter, said it was in a bunch of pieces. Now it runs great again! Just gotta get tires before the snow hits now
