Default Cost to build or buy a 88-98 ls swapped chevy ?

Hey guys, still have the itch for a ls swapped chevy, and I like the 88-98 body style as I use to own a 95 Tahoe and it's a nice clean classic look. Well I've got about 5k to play with for a hot rod truck to start with. My thoughts are a 2wd truck , I'd prefer a stepside for the lowered look and a 95 and up interior for the newer looking dash and door panels as compared to earlier years. Would it be more economical to have an already done swap, or to try to find a craigslist special and build it myself ( don't have air tools or a lift ) with say a 5.3/4l60. I had thought about a s10 v8 as I see the swaps on cl , but I'm a big guy (6'5 340) so fitting in an s10 and don't know if I would spend more money upgrading the s10 chassis and drivetrain for a v8 compared to what's already in a c1500 chassis for v8 use.

Personally I would buy a craigslist special and build it myself so I know it is done right. but it might be more economical to buy a NBS like 99-2003 with the 5.3 in it already and do that route. On another note I see that you are in orlando, where at? I am located in clermont fl

Let me add another thing to my post above. The reason I say it might be smart to do the NBS because if you want to go boost in the future, they are alot easier to get a kit than the OBS (88-98 trucks)

My cost was
Truck 800 (Craigslist )
Motor and trans for swap 1700( junkyard)
Rebuild stuff 700
Lowering 500
Wheels 1500
Tires 500
Paint and custom stuff 1000(done by me)
Swap stuff less then 500

And if I sold it I would ask for a crazy number like 12k or so

if I did the swap myself, I would ask a crazy number to, so no one buys it. I built the truck for me, and thats how it will stay

I've been thinking of selling my LS swapped 95 Z71. Had less than 10k miles on the swap before I got rear ended last year. Just needs the frame pulled and the cab corner fixed. It still runs/drives like it is now.

I'll take $6,500 bottom dollar for everything I have minus the stereo. It's a fresh heads/cam LQ9 and built 4L60 makes 403rwhp. Let me know if you happen to be interested I can get you more details.
