Nice build man. Sorry if I have more questions than answers. What mounts did you use for the engine swap, trans if any? Why the 8 lug conversion and where did you get the bucket seats?

I used transdapt plates from ebay. Trans mount was stock just lid back. I am switching to 8 lug to match my 14 bolt rear end. The buckets were from the junkyard out of a mercury tracer.

Aright, I have to ask why 8 lug axles for an autoX build? It is the best place to put weight (Center and low) but weight is the enemy of handling. That full floater is a heavy beast..

I swapped to a 14bolt because I destroyed the 10 bolt. I somehow sent the pinion back into the carrier and it locked up destroying it. Searched for a 12 bolt locally but a guy was getting rid of a 3b4 ton suspension so I grabbed the spindles and lower control arms and axle. Th axle is larger but should be stronger and I will be swapping over the front to match the 8 lugs. The lower control arms and spindles are the same size roughly and have bigger brakes. Not much more wieght, but with the 5.3l it should even out.

I swapped from a 10 bolt to a 14bsf, which put on about 100 lbs. I believe the full floater is 100 more, so its not an insignificant amount of weight.

In regards to the weight I was only referring to the ront end. I was hoping for a little more weight in the rear anyways because there is nothing back there. Not that much lol. I am planning to convert to disc in the future so that should shave some weight. I just didn't want to mess with another busted rear end.

So i test fit the new rims i got on the 3/4 spindle and rotor and the rim hit on the spindle. i bought these 8 lug 15x10 rims for this build and was planning on running them all around but it appears that i will be finding some 5 lugs to match the rear and just continue on with the suspension. i want to flip the rear and drop the front with maybe drop spindles and a coil. not sure how low i can go. i am running 15x10 in the rear with a 295 series tire currently with plans to go 315 or larger if i can fit it. In the front i am going with a 15x8 and a 295 series tire. I have run this setup on the front for years and havent seen rubbing yet. i am hoping that with the 4" of backspace on the front rims i will be able to get the nose down 4-6". The rear i plan to c-notch and flip which should get me down 6" or more. maybe shackles if its not low enough.

I have the front suspension parts to convert my front end over to the 8 lug stuff to match the rear and i am using this to tear into the front and replace bushings and what not. I already have a blazer tank and my battery where my tank used to be. bucket seats installed to make the roll cage a little easier. Just looking for any tips or hints anyone may have in the suspension area. i am looking to run some 18 x 8 or 18 x 9 8 lug rims and 295 or larger series tire. maybe a 4 link if i can find a setup i like.

i talked with the guys at the hotchkis truck yesterday at the del mar show and they said the 73-87 series suspension is on the list of trucks they will be looking to build in the next year or more. he said a leaf spring setup would respond well with properly tuned leafs and a panhard. not sure if i agree with that but we will see.

any one have any help?
Get good shocks and mild lowering 2/4 or 4/6 with the leaf spring setup. Or if you could swing it a good trailig arm style with bags/panhard/etc. I use to autocross my old 70 swb after reading about a guy named Dan Blocker for years in Hot Rod. Dan had a 55/56 Chevy truck and I always remember him being quoted saying "I love chasing Vipers and Vettes down at 140mph in the curves and straightaways."

What is the advantage of the trailing arm swap. I have seen a kit or this. Does it locate the rear better?

Same setup that Nascar uses, for my old 70 it seemed to work really well with a 5/7" drop. Search for "Spoolin" and you can see a more modern variation. Something that will allow articulation and keep the axle centered for the weight being pushed. Whats the budget allow for?
