Which head unit is that the CDA-7998 or the CDA-7997? I have the CDA-7998 going to a JBL 4 channel to push my cerwin vega door speakers and an 8" amplified rs series bazooka. How do you like those kick panel speakers? Do they get in the way of the e-brake and getting in and out of the truck? Lar MacADaYear 09-07-2003, 01:47 PM Where did ya get those kick panels and how much were they? How big of a speaker fits inside and how is the imaging? Hit Man X 09-07-2003, 02:06 PM Looks Good!! Lar That's the 7998 and it is very trick. Took me a while to figure out how it all worked. It powers the JL 300/3 and 500/1. The kick panels I bought new off ebay for $140 a while ago. They were that dark blue color and I tried to paint them to that tan but the color is off a bit...hence why my Stelathbox is different also. They give excellent imaging up front...mine are setup with JL 3 way components also. I have a little cute 4" midrange driver in them now but up to a 5.25" driver will fit in there. I considered buying two 5.25" midrange drivers to stuff in there for more surface area but after reading the manual a few times before my install I decided not to. I figured this 3 way setup was designed for 4" midrange not the 5.25"...doensn't mean I would not like to try it in the future but I'd like to get them bi-amped first. Yes the e-brake is rendered useless as of now. I have no idea how to bend it to clear the kick panel. You do lose footwell space but I am used to them so it doesn't really bother me much. sleek silverado 09-07-2003, 02:11 PM I have those same kick panels with Diamond Audio Hex Series 5 1/4 in them. How do you like them? I think they really throw the music in your face. Nice set up! Hit Man X 09-07-2003, 02:28 PM I have those same kick panels with Diamond Audio Hex Series 5 1/4 in them. How do you like them? I think they really throw the music in your face. Nice set up! Diamond's are very nice speakers, so are Bostons. I've never listened to Focal's but I like the Diamond sound over the Bostons. I am very happy with my JL's excellent sounds and take some power. I am VERY frugal when it comes to buying car parts espically audio, retailers are just way over priced. I buy almost all my stuff mail order or heavily discounted new. I paid a little over $400 for my Stealthbox new! That was with a pretty good deal from a guy I know who owns an AutoSound. I do all my own installs, saves assloads of cash, and that way if something goes wrong it is my fault. I really need to get a good "tune" over my stereo with setting the amp gains and parametric EQ for the truck. Did you guys know...when a speaker is rated at 60watts RMS that is over the full 20-20000Hz area; so when you toss on your X-overs with a 24db/oct slope at say 100Hz your RMS rating increases as the speaker can play louder and cleaner! Cool huh? I picked that up from a buddy of mine who used to own a custom audio place that now has hung up his pliers. :jest: He's pushed over 100 watts RMS through some drivers for with proper crossovers and they are fine...you just need to look out for your inline passive X-overs as they can melt with too much power! :eek2: Keith 09-08-2003, 01:03 AM Good to see another car craft reader out there. :) Real nice looking system! Who makes those 4"X6" for the back doors? Thanks Slowverado 09-08-2003, 01:09 AM DIAMONDS ARE BAD ASS!!!!! i have a buddy with a 2000 truck like our's reg cab v6 4/7 drop, 20s custom interior he owns a stereo company and has 4 diamond componant 6.5" speakers and 2 tweeters in each door for a total of 8 6.5s and 4 tweeters in the doors and 1 tweeter in each pillar has 3 tvs and a ps2 also...very sweet truck. he works for porsche and his dad on the side doing trannies....as well as the audio company MacADaYear 09-08-2003, 05:42 AM Damn 5 lines too tell us how pimp your "buddy"s ride is... maybe he's your Butt Buddy :gay: Haha... j/k ... but how the hell do you fit 4 6.5's in one door? FILE 09-08-2003, 06:26 AM Looks awesome Eric..... Hit Man X 09-08-2003, 01:24 PM Car Craft is great! Those are Infinity Kappa plates. I would have gone with JL 4x6 but they only make a coax in the 4x6 not a comp plate. :( Keith 09-08-2003, 08:53 PM I found some of those infinity plates for cheap on ebay. I was wondering how hard it is to install them in the door? Do you have to take off the whole door panel, or just pop of the grille? I have heard that Infinity make really good speakers. Thanks. Hit Man X 09-09-2003, 11:42 AM I found some of those infinity plates for cheap on ebay. I was wondering how hard it is to install them in the door? Do you have to take off the whole door panel, or just pop of the grille? I have heard that Infinity make really good speakers. Thanks. The rear panel comes off, but easy. There is one bolt that holds it to the frame...pull that out, and pull the little plastic retainer off around the back door. Now start at the top and being slowly pulling the panel off, it is very easy. Just take it slow. Any stereo place should have factory interface plugs so you won't have to cut off the factory harness. I also have my speakers with XTC foam baffles that keep water off and help sound deaden some. Hope that helps! MacADaYear 09-09-2003, 11:51 AM I also have my speakers with XTC foam baffles that keep water off and help sound deaden some. What that  Ive never heard of it... Ill do that when I change out my Alpine comps to Focal comps... Hit Man X 09-09-2003, 01:04 PM Sweet idea.... Ill do that when I change out my Alpine comps to Focal comps... I'd throw down a few layers of B-Quiet first on the door skin then add the baffle over the top. I have just the baffles and they help quite a bit! Keith 09-09-2003, 03:58 PM So do you just poke a hole through the foam and thread the speaker wire through? Does it stay watertight then, or do you add a dollop of silicone? Hit Man X 09-09-2003, 04:15 PM So do you just poke a hole through the foam and thread the speaker wire through? Does it stay watertight then, or do you add a dollop of silicone? I poked little hole in the bottom of the baffle. Never crossed my mind to seal it with some silicone... Keith 09-09-2003, 04:37 PM Do stereo shops carry those foam thingies, or is crutchfield the only place to get them? If so, should I just get the wiring adapters from crutchfield at the same time? Hit Man X 09-09-2003, 04:56 PM Do stereo shops carry those foam thingies, or is crutchfield the only place to get them? If so, should I just get the wiring adapters from crutchfield at the same time? As far as I know Crotchfield is the only place that has those baffles. No one locally to me has them. They also have those wiring adapters...they are like $6/set. Most places such as Circuit City and Best Buy have those adapters. |
