can you use the diablo to tune a cam?
I am getting:

Thunder Racing Custom Camshaft - 220/220 .553/.553 114 LSA 1500-6500 RPM Power Band. ***Computer Tuning Required with automatic transmission cars.*** Can I get away with stock tuning? A very well balanced camshaft that makes excellent power across the entire RPM range. Due to the fast ramp rate of this camshaft, the use of 1.8 rockers is not recommended.

 

I would like to know also cause I am installing a very similar cam. I have heard that the TQ converter will lock and unlock while cruising on the highway.

 

You'll need some kind of tune. My cam required a higher idle and a little tweeking to make it run good. It will lope on a 5.3 and might make driving an auto a little stressful.

 

How about if I do some tuning, will it run ok? I am not sure if i want to install it if I am going to have all kind of tuning issues. What do you mean that driving could be stressful?

 

Stressful= no tuning = lope, stalling, poor off idle throttle, dies when you have to brake hard, dies when you put it in gear or change A/C system on / off, etc... I don't mean that it won't work, it just means that without tuning, you won't like the way it feels. Plus with that cam, you'll probably need to adjust your air / fuel mix a little.

With tuning, I'd bet you can run that cam without most of the above headaches.

 

See my post in this forum about that exact cam in a 5.3L. ABSOLUTELY NO TUNING was done to the truck and it has never stalled nor attempted to stall. The truck is an 03 and has ETC, which may make a difference. It does lope pretty hard. I should post up some sound clips. The whole truck shakes side to side at idle when it settles into a "rythm".
