Can I get the vin # off one of you guys with a 2000 silverado with a 5.3L & 3.73 gears. I need my computer tuned for 3.73 gears so I need a truck vin with 3.73s

His truck is currently programmed for 4.10 gears. He can use Y2K's VIN number at a dealership to reflash his PCM with the 3.73 program. You need a Tech2 to do this & a good buddy who is a GM service tech.

 

i never heard of needing a vin to change stuff with tech 2... i know u can change gears and tire heights with it, but the vin i don't understand...

 

You may be thinking of a Hypertech programmer or something. The Tech 2 is a bi-directional scan tool. It won't change gear ratio or tire height in the PCM.

The Tech 2 WILL do complete PCM programming when a new program is downloaded into it with the GM dealership computer (or by an authorized independant like we are).

This is done by VIN. It's the only way the Tech 2 can program. Although it's certainly not the prefered method to adjust for gear and tire changes; it's probably the cheapest!!
