i have been heavy into the mods but never started on the looks part of the truck. thinking i need a roll pan and a cool hood, tinted windows and another 1" or so drop.

on the roll pan, is there a good one to buy, i imiagen that a super cheep one could be made that will rust easy, i want a good one. any sugestions?

on the hood, i have alot of hial dent's so this one makes sence. do people really have troubles with the fiberglass hoods? there are some fiberglass hoods that i like but i don't wan't one that can't be painted nicely or has other problems. if no one helps me on this one i will probably just get the goodmark steel cowl hood, only heard good thing about that one. is the fiberglass one any lighter?

any insight on either one of these items would be apreciated.

edit... anyone know if the factory hitch can be used with a roll pan?

edit again... seems like the factory hitch bolts to the bumper, hmmm, thats not going to work.

Sir Michaels is the only way to go for roll pans. And they make a "hide a hitch" that hides behind the license plate.

yea sir michaels is the best roll pan out there. no rust with mine. and you can get it welded and it'll look real nice.

I had good luck with my fiberglass one from prestigious customs. I will get you a link. with the right steel/fiberglass pan you can get a flip up plate and a hidden hitch to solve your towinfg needs.
Urethane is nice to but no one makes one for my stepside. I like sir michaels but fiberglass is alot less in wieght. Truckin mag has a host of dealers that sell them at decent prices.
btw. nice video

I just put a Street Scene urethane roll pan on mine. It looks great IMO and I will post some pics soon. But in your case Parish, you may want to consider a urethane one rather than a fiberglass one. A urethane will take more abuse than a fiber or metal one. Also if you plan on demodding the truck for selling, I would stay away from a weld in. In my case, I just don't like the look of the sir mikes french cut in the plate area.

Here are some pics of my street scene urethane roll pan...

The little cover to the right of the plate is for the spare tire crank... the only way my dad allowed me to get the rollpan was to keep the spare tire (Now I get to be laughed at because I am just 17 lol)

Here is my vote for the best looking hood. I have a 2000 GMC and just wish they made for both the Chevy and GMC.

some good points about the urathane, i would like to be able to remoeve it when i go to sell it. by saying it is more durable does that mean it is like a bumper cover or side molding where it will bend and return back?

As far as the roll pan,I have an APC which they told me was identical to the sir michaels but cheaper. And the hood,I have the ram air fiberglass hood from eastcoastcustoms. It is great, but takes a little bit to adjust to line up and it fits tight on mine as far as shutting. But I have had more compliments on the hood on my truck than anything else so it is staying for now.

Thanks,
Mike

damn, i really want to make the truck look cool but this stuff seems so expensive, i would have no problem spending $3500(if i had it) on a forged stroker kit but $400 on a hood just upsets me. decisions, decsions, at least the roll pan saves me a few lbs over the bumper.

I love my Sir Michael's pan. The fit and finish on it are PERFECT! I bolted mine in just in case I wanted to put a bumper back on it.

the price for them is kinda high, and the shipping (truck freight only) and cost of shipping is a PITA too. in fact, the only reason we bought them is we got a great deal ($380 a piece) from a vendor at Cruisin' The Coast last year. we just brought them home via the truck beds and didn't have to worry about shipping.

I really like the Escalade door handles. I think I will have to do that too. I have the Escalade gauges. Much better than factory. I run Mobil 1 and just added the 'vette Mobil 1 oil filler cap and label. It is the little touches that make the difference. Have you guys tried to turn the ram air hood into a functional ram air? Do you think it is possible?

Here are some quick shots I took of my Street Scene sportside roll pan. Quality sux, but I just ran out and did it and it's night. My spare is still there, and the hole for access to the crank is under the plate. So I gotta take the plate off, but how often would you need the spare anyway?

I have a rollpan from www.customclassic.com (http://www.customclassic.com)

It is a lot cheaper than the Sir Mike's and I like how it is stamped around the plate instead of "french cut".

I had mine welded in, but you can also just bolt it in. The fit was perfect and I couldn't have been happier with my choice.

And here ia a picture of the hidden hitch and flip-down license plate bracket. I found that the cheapest place to get the hidden hitch was www.macsspring.com. (http://www.macsspring.com.) It ended up costing $125 shipped because there is free shipping on ALL purchases over $100.

Y2K2Sierra....Thanks for the link to www.customclassic.com (http://www.customclassic.com)
$107 + $10 shipping? What a steal on a steel roll pan (pun intended)
I ordered mine with no hesitation.
BTW...did it come with instructions and hardware to bolt it in?

If not give them a call and order that too. It's a nice little light and it doesn't come with the pan. It does come with mounting hardware, but no instructions. It's pretty easy to mount. I just used some screws that I had laying around to mount mine and then I took it to the shop where the welded it up and painted it. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

Are the mounting holes predrilled or will I need to do that myself? The license plate light? Totally forgot about that. $8 is a good price for one but another $6 shipping. So it would cost me 14. I've seen license plate bolts that have a light built in at an automotive store that was relatively cheap. Maybe I'll go that route. And I won't have to wait for it. Instant gratification!!

You will have to drill the ones on the sides to screw to the bed sides. I was also considering one of those license plate frames with the built in light, but I decided to go with the customclassic one and it is a really nice setup. But either way I think it will look great.
