So on the never ending quest to make everything blue in my truck I have now done the headlight controls to blue :

There is a hotspot but thats because I replaced the bulb that was there with 2 leds

Here are some pics if you guys wanna do this :
1) Remove the headlamp control and unplug it from the wire harness.
2)On the back, theres a little plastic circle piece, using a small screwdriver, twist it counterclockwise and pop it out (you might have to wiggle it around a little and pry it out).

3)Now, take the stock bulb out by unraveling the bulb wires from the base of the plastic tube and pulling them out.

4)Now, very carefully saw off the tube ABOVE the 2 threads that hold the plastic tube(not a tube anymore <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> ) in place. You must leave those 2 threads or else the plastic tube will not twist back in and hold (a no brainer <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> ).
5) Then put your LED in and re-ravel (opposite of unravel?) the LED wires onto the base of the tube thing (Sorry about the blurriness, my digicam sux at taking closeups).

6)Then put the tube with the LEDs back in the headlight control box and put back in truck

what bulbs did you use this time? are they from same website where you got the bulbs for the map lights, doors, and dash? are you going to do the climate control knobs too?

Looks Good! This weekend I spend like 6 hours trying this on my cargo switch, with no luck. Soldiered a led in the place of the factory light. Nothing happened, so I reversed the polarity, and it lite up for a split second and, pop, the LED blew. I used the 2400 mcd / 30 LED. Have not tried the 5500 mcd / 16 yet.
By the way what does "mcd" mean or stand for?
Did you try only one LED, what did that look like?

I love the way everything is looking and the a/c and window controls are definitly gonna be blue soon... as well as the cargo lamp contorls which I have already taken apart I just need more Leds..


Oh.. haha... 02Silverado dont forget that our trucks are like 12.2v off and like 14.4 on ... so you cant just take a bulb out and put a led in its place. You need a resistor to keep it from blowing. I set a few on fire makin sure that was true. Anywayz I used a 510 resistor but it all depends on what led you wanna use and how bright etc.

If you look in the pics you can see the 2 leds on top.. with the resistor on the negative side and the postive side runs straight thru.

You can figure out what kind of resistor needed by using "Ohms Law" which is simply, V=IxR
V means volts, I means current or amps (in our case with the LEDs its milliamps or mA) and R means resistance or ohms.
To get the "R" divide volts (14.4 in our trucks) by the amps of the LED bulb (its 20 mA, or .02 amps)That will give you 720. Since I couldn't find a resistor at that rating I went a little higher. The reason Mac and I used a 510 resistor is because the LEDs we got say 20mA or 30 mA Max.
So do the math with 30mA instead of 20, and you get 480 ohms. We couldn't find 480 resistors so we used the next rating up, the 510.
Another thing, you can use a lower resistor the more LEDs you use.
For example, lets just say that our trucks put out 12 volts when running (for simplicity, I know its 14.4 in reality), and the LEDs can take 3 volts max. You can run 4 LEDs in a series (meaning connecting the + and - leads together, making a "strip" of LEDs, if I may) and you wouldn't need any resistor, b/c 4 LEDs at 3volts each equals 12volts.
