I just went to the local wrecking yard and picked up a 4L80E out of a 2006 2500hd silverado with the 6.0L. What's the best complete overhaul kit that will obviously freshen up the trans, but that will up the horsepower capacity of it as well and make it decent for street use? Thanks guys.

 

Not sure about a kit for freshening it up, I'm taking my chances with an 07 junkyard 80e with nothing but a Transgo HD2 reprogramming kit (shift kit). But everyone seems to recomend the transgo for the valvebody department.

 

I wouldn't worry too much. I took a chance on my 80E from a 96 model 6.5 diesel truck with 130,000+ miles. I put a transgo shift kit in it and its been flawless except for one small problem. About three weeks after putting it in, it started to neutral at lower speeds when in OD. Talked to a local transmission guru and we decided that I was loosing line pressure and it needed the AFL and TCC valve replaced with upgraded transgo units, apparently a very common issue. Had that done for 160 parts and labor and that was with me handing him the valve body. Other then that, shifts perfect, FIRM, consistant. I love it.
