Default Getting a smoother ride out of the rear suspension

I bought my truck used, got it already lowered with rims/tires. The guy that had it before me used Belltech when he dropped it. The front is fine, handles great, plenty of travel. But the rear is a different story. Its resting on the bumpstops, no room in between, makes for one hell of a rough ride. He also took out 2 leaf springs when he did it. I'm not sure what drop he did on it, but I'm assuming its a 2/3 or 2/4, doesn't seem any lower.

How could i get it up off the bumpstomps where it will ride better but not affect the ride height? Maybe I'm screwed and need to start from scratch with a new drop kit.

help!

newer style trucks only have 2 leaves and an overload in the leaf pack, if it is in fact a 2/4 drop, I am guessing the previous owner never trimmed the bumpstops properly...... crawl underneath and see if you have a shackle and hangar drop in the rear, usually the frontmost leafspring mount will be bolted-in if this has been done and the rear shackle will be significantly longer than a stocker.

posting a few exterior pictures of your truck and the rear suspension/bumpstops would help us to further answer your question

I believe it is a shackle.

i hope ur not still riding on stock bumpstops, when i did mine i backed out of the garage went around the block and pulled right back in to chop the stock stops some, absolutlly horrible before, still pretty bad after. thats why i got new small poly bumpstops all around and now its decent. but you will never have a great ride unless u notch the frame..
oh and if it looks like 2leafs are missing/cut off you prob have belltech lowering leafs.

My cousin said trucks should normally have 5 leafs, so idk??? I don't know a whole lot when it comes to suspension. I LOVE the stance of my truck though

Anything 4" and lower in the back should have a c-notch. I haven't figured out why people are so afraid of them. It's an extremely simple modification that done properly will never fail.

As far as gaining some travel, get rid of the stock bumb stops if you still have them, buy a notch and run it.

Your cousin is wrong in this case. 99-06 half-ton trucks have 3 leaves. 2 arched and 1 overload like said before.

the only newer chevy that may have 5 leaves in the rear pack would be a 2500

1500's 98-older had more than 2

I think your issue is the reduced number of leaves in the spring. I've got a Hotchkis 2/4 and my ride is just fine. I can count on one hand the number of times I've hit the bumpstops in the last 18 months in which I've had the drop.
