I checked the block out, and did some thinking of what i wanted to do.
The Plan: Replace the bent rod and piston, all rings, all bearings, gaskets, hone the block, polish the 823 casting L92 heads (they had alot of carbon build up so i am just going to try to prevent it) Cam and WALLA, sound easy enough?
Here is what is done so far.
Block is honed, and clean and painted
http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m112/rustydlh/BlockPaint2.jpg
Number 7 cleaned up good, but still a little evidence :/
http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m112/rustydlh/BlockHoned.jpg
Need rings, main and cam bearings then the short block can be assembled.
So stay tuned for my Gen III to Gen IV swap
Oh and i have a tru-trac and 4.10's going in tomorrow

UPDATE: Sold the L92's for 600. Decided to just wait until i figured out for sure what heads i wanted to use (leaning towards some 243s). Then sure as shit 2 days ago a regular customer pulls up in his 06 vette, but i notice its got a little lope to it. He took it to Scoggin Dickey and had them put on a compete L92 top end, and threw in a little cam while he was at it. I mentioned to him i was kinda looking for some 243's. The next day he calls the shop telling me 200 bucks and i can have his stock 243's :)
SCORE.
So the new setup will be a referbed ly6 6.0 shortblock, 243's, and a custom cam nothing to big but not to small, something streetable but well performing.

:( Kyle sometimes i wonder about you. You think the worst ideas are the GREATEST.
But on a side note. For the swap i would only need, trans + all the upgrade shit. Crossmember. Repair 1 plug that i cut to make the reverse lights work for my 5 speed (i am using a 6.0 4l80E harness currently) and a cooler and driveshaft with joints.
So realistically its a pretty straight forward swap since i also am not putting down any power compared to everyone else thats running the 4l80e's.

Should be getting the crank, rods, pistons and rings installed this week. I had Scoggin Dickey install and new 24x reluctor wheel to replace the GEN IV 58x. So now i dont have to worry about a linginfelter box.
The list of parts is down to gaskets, cam, head work and misc. bolts. I hope to have it done in 2009 haha.

No fast ones. Just attention to detail.
Just started with nothing and went from there, I need a new ring and pinion, I lost a pinion bearing and set it up again and now its a little noisy.
Some paints dont stick to aluminum.
This complete motor has been build with deals. Im trading the stock L76 pistons for main bearings haha.
Alot of people have done the t-56 swap in the trucks. The t-56 i was looking at was around 2400, then with all the clutch and drive shaft i would have been around 4k ish. Right now im only out 1200 and the 4l80 is built and being shipped to me this week. I just have to decide on a converter, then its lines cooler and shaft the rest is tune and fabbing a crossmember.
As far as the man pedal, i guess i could put that avatar back up so you know what we are talking about.
The box converts the GEN 4 58x crank reluctor wheel, and 4x cam gear to a 24x and 1x so the gen 3 computers can read them and run the motor.

I am just a mechanic and i find deals, I got a 80e in rough shape (cracked case that had been welded poorly) and then swapped it for a 80e core my work sent back to GM. Then got alot of parts for cheap by just asking around and getting deals through work from various people. Got a GM transmission builder to build it for a fee he determined and wala around 1200 buck so far and its done.
Also the avatar by my name up top is the man pedal!

Im wanting to but the 6 liter in front of the 5 speed and get it dyno'd just to see what kinda power its actually making compared to the 80e hog. So im hoping for 400 but really if it runs good who cares haha.
Stock 80E can take a lot more than 400hp.
Im with you on that one! But mine has the Hughes "racing" performance kit with koleen steels, hd sprag, and new 4th gear steels, HD2 kit with medium level shift kit, so 400 hp should be easy for this trans to handle haha.

Gotta torque up the lifter tray bolts...then get gaskets for all the covers and torque them up then the rotating assembly is done and next is have a valve job done on the heads and maybe a little porting.
Cam im using is a 227/231 6xx 6xx on 112+2
Gotta get all the tires moving...stuff is still smoothing out from moving from NM back to phoenix, but i hope to have the motor done and in by winter time.
But that is only if the clutch hold out...i might end up doing the 80e swap first.
