Default Good project vehicle for 9k?

So i've been having some doubts about modifying my truck. Mostly because the aftermarket is just not there.

I'm not really a chevy man, so there won't really be a chevy on my list. They're reliability/dealers burned the bridge with me.

I found a local used(10x) dealer that has a 97' mustang cobra w/ 80k.

Then there is an early 99-04 mustang that i can get for about 6-8k right now.

Then there is my all time favorite idea for a race car, the BMW E30. The only downside is that nothing i do with it, is really Ca approved. So i'd be swapping parts bi-annually.

I could look for a twin turbo 300zx, but at my price range it might be a bit beat.

Or lastly i could save up more and get something a lot nicer. I've seen the 1st yr Evo's/WRX's go for reasonable prices.

any ideas??

i have always wanted to take an old van and fix it up.
mini bar, water bed, tv, mini fridge, mood lights.
you know, 2 seats up front, home away from home built in the back.
everything you need but a toilet and a hot shower.
the luv machine, with a big murel painted on the side and a turbo under the hood.
