Hello everyone
I'm new to the site and my 04 GMC Seirra Crew Cab. I purchased the truck with aftermarket 20" wheels and I'm looking to get some 17" rims with more aggressive tires for our wonderful winter months here in Northwest Pa. The question I have is what offset should I look for in a 9" wide rim? I would like to put on either snows or a aggressive a/t tire. Any suggestions would be very helpful since I'm overwhelmed with the options. Thanks Kingdog

 

I went to my local tire store and picked up some 17" GM takeoff wheels and put an aggressive 265/70/17 snow tire on them. Not the best looking setup, but a fairly cheap way of doing it and the factory wheels are painted/clear coated so they resist that crap that the hwy depts around here put on the roads.

 

stock silverado 17's are 7.5 inches wide and have a 31mm offset, stock tires were a 265 70 17. heres a neat little tire comparison tool i found a while back. plug in the stock specs, find a set of rims you like and plug in the specs of the rims and it will tell you how it will fit in comparrison to the stocks.

Thanks for the info! I have years of knowledge in sport compact cars but when it comes to trucks I'm stumped. I searched and searched but couldn't find anything useful. I made the mistake of buying rims w/o checking into offsets and wasted a lot of money. I didn't want that to happen again.
