Default Oil filter question....

I just traded in my 2002 on a 2007 but I know they don't have the same part number. Side by side...the 2002 seems to be a bit taller than the 2007. However, I haven't tried to screw in the 2002 on to the 2007 yet. Measurement..they look about the same....has anyone tried a 2002 oil filter on a 2007 truck? Both engines were/are 5.3Ls.

The only reason I'm asking a question like this is because I have a stock of Amsoil oil filters for the 2002 that I could use on my 2007 truck and my wifes G8 GT (they use the same filter believe it or not). However, Amsoil doesn't have up a part number for the 2007 or G8 GT yet so..just trying to see.

Thanks guys for the input.

The thread is the same, the only difference is the height. I use a filter for a 2000 truck, and I have an 06 engine in my truck.

Taller filter = better, so run the bigger ones.

Actually I think it was 07 when they changed from a PF46 to a PF48 on the current generation 4.8, 5.3, 6.0. The only difference is the threads are bigger on the PF48. Don't ask me why, they just did. Probably one of those how can we waste billions to offset that tenth of a penny we saved by not hanging a tree air freshener from the mirrror before it rolls off the line.

Classic or NBS, all 2007 models went to the PF48 which has bigger threads, which is Amsoil filter #EAO47. Amsoil may substitute the EAO47 for a Wix #57060 when ordering.

Amsoil does offer a filter for the '08 G8 GT......also an EAO47.

I was just on their website last night and they didn't list the part number on there.

Interesting....I didn't even think about looking in my reference book since I'm a Perferred Customer on there.....but I do know the 2007 TB SS part number is Ea047. So...that's interesting.
