View Full Version : problems with something rattlin like lifters 99DakotaR/T 12-29-2008, 10:57 PM when i romp on it hard runnin about 50 or so the lifters rattle or something but i run high octane gas idk wats causin it EATSGTS 01-05-2009, 12:19 AM i would probably pull the 360 out and put a small block chevy in it. :eyes: viciousknid 01-05-2009, 12:39 AM when i romp on it hard runnin about 50 or so the lifters rattle or something but i run high octane gas idk wats causin it So running high octane gas means your lifters won't rattle? I'd start by checking your Cats, Exhaust manifold gaskets, and then rockers to make sure everything is tight. 99DakotaR/T 01-06-2009, 10:05 PM i checked all that but after u say cats then i think thats wat it is. i tightened all the header bolts but they were all tight iwe will check the rockers when we pull the valve covers.thats wat i always heard that low octane will make them rattle. o and eats gts stay in the forum were u know something about the trucks instead of puttin me down for owning a dodge that dont mean i dont like chevys because i have one of them to. EATSGTS 01-06-2009, 10:32 PM o and eats gts stay in the forum were u know something about the trucks instead of puttin me down for owning a dodge that dont mean i dont like chevys because i have one of them to. not putting down a dodge at all. Just a joke. you need to chill. if you wanna get smart i wont be helping you work on that dodge soon. lol :engarde: 99DakotaR/T 01-07-2009, 09:43 PM ha ha aight dude lol can we just say i like chevys and u dont have anything against dodges how bout that? end of arguement EATSGTS 01-08-2009, 12:35 AM bet.. LowBlack99 01-08-2009, 04:46 AM Mods may be of some assistance in figuring out what it going on? If a lifter is "rattling" it would have to be due to something being loose in the valve train or weak valve springs. From what you describe it sounds more like pinging under acceleration? Many things could cause this and thats where mods come in, assuming you have a basically stock truck I would start with inspecting/replacing the plugs, Ohm out the plug wires and look at the dist. cap (if its not coil on plug?) for signs of carbon tracking. I'd also run some Lucas injector cleaner through it and check the throttle body for carbon build up and clean it as well. Basically a good thorough tune up. Black5.9R/T 01-08-2009, 07:56 PM if its not coil on plug? their not coil on plug. and he said he checked the header bolts so i doubt it has cats because why wast the time with headers on a dak i you leave the stock single exhaust with a cat? no the ping under accel sounds like a good possibility. EATSGTS 01-09-2009, 12:01 AM I'll give yall a rundown on this truck, because I serviced the tranny in it tonight and drove it a little bit. First off the mods: K&N intake, Helix TB spacer, Gibson shortys, dual exhaust w/ 2 cats i believe, and two flowmasters w/ turndowns. I kicked it running about 50 like he said, the noise is not really loud, but definately noticable. I noticed it does have a slight miss. He just put in some e3 plugs but, the autolite plugwires look pretty give out, he is gonna try giving it a good tune up, cap, rotor button and wires, and probably some sea foam and see if that helps. p.s. - How the heck do you R/T guys get traction ? lol Black5.9R/T 01-10-2009, 09:15 PM we don't!traction is something a R/T will never see. ROFL!!! anyway back on subject. i just thought of something i know he dosent have nitrous but my Aux fuel line for my nitrous runs near my fire wall and i would some times hear a tick because the line would be resting aginst the firewall and you can hear the injector pulse through it. check his fuel lines and make sure they arn't aginst the firewall. and on the whole miss mine does it to and i talked to some guys say just a cold air intake and exhaust can do it because the stock ECU is running it lean at idle because the increase in air flow 99DakotaR/T 01-18-2009, 09:31 PM sorry i havent been on in awhile to check this. me and eatsgts did the trans and i let him drive it it aint nothin major. i got distributor cap and rotor button and wires and put plugs in a few weeks ago but didnt think it needed wires. i got a question wat gears do u prefer to run black 5.9 R/T? Black5.9R/T 01-18-2009, 09:39 PM i am running stock gears still, but i am going to put 4.56's w/ trutrac, heads, cam, intake, and tune in when i get back from Afghanistan dirt track racer 81 01-18-2009, 09:48 PM is it detonation? my grandmas truck that i used to tow my race car with would detonate with 91 octane gas in it and was down on power, we ended up puttin a new fuel pump in it and whatever kind of filter is in the tank and it quit detonating. so that meant either the pump was getting bad or the filter was getting plugged which was causing it to to run lean 99DakotaR/T 01-18-2009, 10:33 PM my buddy tells me that will be to low for me. i just got a stock transmission. i was gonna put 4.56s with mt drag radials. i dont drive it everyday or anything. wat would be my top speed? 99DakotaR/T 01-18-2009, 10:41 PM my buddy said 4.56s were to low. i run a stock tranny. i was planning on puttin 4.56 with M/T drag radials. wat would my top speed be Black5.9R/T 01-20-2009, 09:03 PM don't know about the top speed bud. all i do is quatermile so it dosen't really matter to me. if you do it though you need to get a tunner so that you can raise the shift points and there will be a good gain 99DakotaR/T 01-21-2009, 09:00 PM my shift points are around 5 grand or more i know that. but idk wat it would top out at see i run eighth mile around here cause there are no 1/4 tracks. Black5.9R/T 01-23-2009, 11:34 AM 4.56's are the best for 1/8th. and my stock shift points is 5000. I am going to raise them to about 5600 or 5700. the R/T's are not a top end monster. they are all down low. the torque is where you make you best times on a R/T 99DakotaR/T 01-23-2009, 11:18 PM appreciate the info man |
