Default Just got in a wreck (long)

Was driving home this afternoon after not having slept for 30 hrs (aside from a nap), passed out at the wheel, ended up veering into a guy in a tundra towig a trailer. I hit the trailer with my right side, he spun out and the trailer tipped over. Thankfully no one was injured, hope that we can work out a deal through insurance (we both have state farm) that will replace his trailer and any contents I damaged. I don't think his truck was damaged, he had a dent in the tailgate that might have come from the wreck, though. My right side is a little scratched up but for the most part there doesn't seem to be any sheetmetal damage.

What's interesting is I knew I was really tired when I started driving home, so I pulled into a parking lot and slept for about an hour in the truck. Woke up and continued home feeling okay until I blacked out.

I once again am thankful that neither one of us was injured, if he wouldn't have been there I likely would have gone off the road and hit somebody else harder or a tree. That may well have killed me or someone else, really puts into perspective how a decision can change lives instantly. This goes to show that driving when you are really tired can be just as bad as driving while drunk, please be safe out there and think about the consequences of your actions. Rant off/

That sucks man. But like you said, no one was hurt. It's only metal and plastic that got damaged. It can be repaired.

Sucks, I fell asleep a few years ago and totaled my first vehicle. Glad to hear everyone was unhurt, good luck with the insurance company.

Several years ago I was driving from PA to Tn. House to house was 950 miles roughly. I remember passing the Tn state line; the next thing I remeber I was well past knoxville. All in all, there is about a 2 hour gap in my trip. When I came to, I was running 95 mph in my 97 Chevy Tahoe 4x4, so close to the mid-90's bonneville in front of my that all I could see was the roof. I slowed down to see 4 pail white faces in the car, they were absolutely terrified. I didn't hit anyone, and no one got hurt, but the same lessoned learned. DON"T DRIVE WHEN YOUR TIRED.

I pulled off and got some caffiene and drove the next 3 hours home.

I rear ended a Toyota years ago with my '88 Chevy...I woke to see a porcelain toilet bowl heading for my head (it just knicked the cab top) Nobody was hurt but I nearly lost my license.

Yes, driving tired is just as bad as driving drunk, that is nearly the same number of fatalities result. Glad you and the others escaped unhurt!!!

IMO driving tired is far more dangerous than driving drunk (to a point)

several years ago i woke up on the freeway with the front end of my truck heading under a semi trailer. i dont give a **** how late i am now, i'll pull over and take a nap.

im glad to hear that no one was injured, youre very lucky.

Good to hear everyone is okay. I take medication that makes me sleepy and live 47 miles from work. Depending on what shift I'm on I either head to work at 1am or I'm heading home at 3am.
Sometimes I stop 2 or 3 times to sleep before I get home. What I would suggest for you to do is go to walmart and get some caffeine pills. Jet Alert works well and is cheapest but if they don't have any go with Equate Stay Awake. 200mg of caffeine.
If your in a situation like that again, take 1 or 2 of those pills and a quick nap if needed. It really helps a lot. each pill is like 1 cup of coffee.
I keep a bottle in my truck at all times.

Glad everyone's okay. Hopefully things will work out, money-wise.

Years ago, I fell asleep driving home (in CT) and smashed my VW GTI into a retention wall on I-95. Since it was 3am and no one was around, I walked to my exit and called a ride. State Police looked everywhere for me, hospitals, ditches, everywhere...except my house. I was home sleeping when a friend called and said there was a Attempt to Locate (like a BOLO, but for safety reasons, not criminal) issued for me by the state police..
