Default How do you take wipers off?

my wiper's paint is peeling off and now they are metal color. i wanted to take them off. i took the black plastic cap off, then i took the nut off. i yank on the wiper really hard but it doesn't seem to want to come off. i am afraid that i will break something. is there a trick i am missing?

They're probably siezed on...I went to paint mine and the same thing happened. They sell a tool that looks like a tiny pitman arm puller that's intended for removing wiper arms, I bought it but haven't had the chance to use it yet. It was pretty cheap IIRC, I got it at thetoolwarehouse.net.

they should just be splined on there. sometimes they get just a tad rusty. A screwdriver should be able to pop them off. maybe a little liquid wrench.

I used a screwdriver and then got OEM replacements at the dealership. My 8 year old wipers looked like ****.

LOL...that's funny. The big concern would be that the splined section of the wiper trans is so siezed (rusted) to the wiper arm that when you pry it off, it snaps and you end up having to replace the entire wiper trans and are stuck without two functioning wipers until the special order part (which I'm sure is not cheap) arrives. I've seen techs do this on other makes of vehicles. The little puller is less than $15 btw
