Default Hatch wont stay closed 97 tahoe sport. Help

Just bought a used sweet 97 Tahoe Sport. Got a couple little things to fix, biggest on the list is the rear hatch. The unlock on the dash works fine and i can hear it engaging but the hatch wont "latch" and stay closed, also of note is the tailgate handle and latches work fine but if i try to manually lock the tailgate and hatch it wont turn left or right. How hard is it to replace the release or whatever? First truck/suv so i am clueless. Learn me guys.

Sounds nice. I've got a '98, but mine has the dutch cargo doors....there is a pretty good Tahoe forum here that can probably help you out:

Also, check out LMC Truck for parts & stuff. I bet they have a new latch, if you need one.
