so i'm finally starting on my poor truck, i'll be porting up my progess and upgrades from now untill sometime next month when I hope i'm done.

current stuff that I have or is on the way here and will be done by the time its running.

built 4l60e
2003 5.3
tsp 220/220 .581/.581 112
prc stage one 243 heads with prc double springs
ls2 timing chain
hardened pushrods
yella terra roller rockers
jaareds cooling setup
ported ls6 oil pump
b&m trans cooler
and i'm trying my damndest to get a set of longtubes stuffed in before it gets put back togather.

things I want to get in but aren't a priority right now.
blazer tank
blazer front brakes and spindles
ford 8.8 with 3.55s and posi
4 cyl gage cluster(7k tach)
ratchet shifter

I got the truck half done, but i'll be tearing everything apartto install engine mods, headers, and rework the engine mounts. the truck had a stock engine and the tranny had been built by a local shop to take 500hp. the truck was originally meant to get a turbo and the owner ran out of time and intrest.

anyways, on to the pics.

and lastly the stuff I got done tonight, removed hood, core support, bumper, and accessories. tomorrow i'll be swapping out wheels and tires, pulling the cam, timing set, balancer, and I might throw on my new mirrors. I'll be pulling the engine out sometime this week when i grap my engine stand and borrow my buddies cherry picker.

oh and I forgot to add, this is the reason my truck hadn't been started on.

the two big reasons are right there. I got the firebird for the wife just before i picked up my truck which took some of my budget. The blazer is my daily right now and needs alot of attention. the house is my newest money pit and has taken more time then planning my wife and my wedding. but at least now that were moved in I have my garage.

update for the day

went and got an engine stand. it looks like i'll be doing more on this thing then I wanted to. but i'll explain that later.
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_2996.jpg

swapped out my rims and tires, I originally picked these up for my blazer but never installed them because i picked up this project. they are the same dimentions as the zq8 rims.
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_2991.jpg
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_2998.jpg

and lastly the progress I made on the engine bay. I decided against pulling the cam first because since I was removing the heads anyways and didn't want to try and turn the engine untill I made sure there was nothing in the cylinders that would scratch the walls.
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_2990.jpg

the first head I pulled off made me pretty happy, the walls looked good and the pistons besides having the normal carbon buildup looked to be in great shape. when I pulled off the other head I found that moisture had found its way into 3 out of the 4 cylenders and one of them looks to have had some standing water in it for a while. I'll clean it up more tomorrow and check the actual damage, but it looks like i may be building an iron block ls1.

this might work out for the better if I have the funds for it, because I was planning on building a forged 5.7 to drop in sometime in her future, but i was kinda looking forward to running the little 5.3 for a while. maybe when i clean her up it will only need to be honed out and get a new set of rings, but i'm not counting on it.:bang:

no the guy who had it before me was going to turbo it. i would love the blower but my deployment money is gone with the purchase of the new house and the stuff i got for this truck. just moved into the house the first week of this month. plus it looks like i'll need a new shortblock which wasn't figured into the budget.

I love your sig! I've been showing it to everyone at my work.

the reason i need another short block :bang::bomb:
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_2999.jpg

so here are my options,
1) find a 5.3 or ls1 shortblock in good condition.
2) tear this down the rest of the way and see if it can be bored to a 5.7 and get forged pistons and rods and make a mild 5.7 that can handle ALOT of n20.

I'm leaning toward the forged setup, but I got my cam to work with a 5.3, and the 5.3 would be far cheaper to get and build then the forged 5.7 and would get back togather faster, and would still be able to take a 100+ shot.

i'm trying to get the engine pulled tomorrow or at least in the next few days, the notch need to be cleaned up, the ac box needs to be patched, i want to build a bracket to relocate the coils. and just clean up the engine bay.
should have some time this weekend.

I dont want to clog up your project thread, but I have never seen a thread or actually seen anyone tell what was involved in the blazer tank swap. Is fairly simple or pretty much modifying a tank to sit somewhere and making it work? I dont know if that makes sense or not.

its taking a blazer tank and making a cross member for it to sit in. You have to relocate the spare tire or remove it, and get some mounts made for the tank along with extending the fuel lines. Its not too difficult if you or someone you know can cut and weld and do simple fabrication. i'll try and dig up a thread from another site later, and hopefully will do the swap myself depending on if my buddy gets here before I have to leave again for school. I can fabricate, but I dont have a welder and am not great at welding, I can but my buddy is great at it and he has a few welders.

I like NA setups the most, and if I ever went fi i would get a supercharger, but I have seen alot of cool turbo builds and they can be fast as hell. v8's are common in our trucks, and turbo's are not so if you want something different you might go with that. however the potential is limited with the v6.

check out s10forum in the blowers and bottles section, also look for a thread in the projects section for a twin turbo syclone.

Were are you located and Were do you plan on getting the 5.3L from??? LMK if you need one. I have one posted for sale in the classified ads. I will even pull the cylinder heads off if you just want the short block or want to make sure it is what I say it is.

Don't want to throw another wrench in the works but you may want to do some reading up on casting numbers and cylinder heads. I know on the last 5.3L truck I did a cylinder head job we found out that the Heads with the little Battery Logo cast in to them are prone to having defects in the casting and are likly to crack. GM has a TSB on this Issue.

Any way cool build!!! Thought about doing one my self with the long block I have, But I have to many other unfinshed projects to mess with at the moment.

there are a ton in phx az which is only an hour from me. I found 3 now for under 500 ranging from 20,000-50,000. i actually found a 6.0 for 500 with low miles but someone else is in line before me to see it.

i have ported 243 heads to go on the shortblock, are the bad castings 706 by any chance? thats what i pulled off the 4.8.

I sold one of my mountain bikes so I shouldn't have any extra money out of pocket. now I just have to get rid of an old rifle I have, and some leftover ar15 carbine parts. but I was planning on getting rid of those anyways.

anyways, i'll post pics up tomorrow of whatever i come home with.

anyone know what the compression will be with ls6 heads. they are stock 64cc combustion chamber.

now I need to upgrade my intake and fuel system, but I already had plans that should still work with the 6.0

What are the advantages with the blazer tank?

the blazer tank sits behind the axle for better weight distribution. the s-10s have a reputation for leaning to one side, especially in the front right corner because the gas tank is located just below the driver. with the driver and a full tank the left side will lean quite a bit, especially with my 235lb self in it. with the blazer tank the wieght is over the rear so it will help me hook, plus will diminish the lean. i'll be relocating as much as I can to under the bed as I can.

that should be pretty sweet, you got a build thread for me to follow? I was really torn between building a 5.3 s10 or a sbsc full size with a built 6.0 in it, but I couldn't find a full size for a good price when I got back. and now that I have an s10 with a 6.0 in it I'm glad I ended up getting this one.

current finally got the long tubes done, but another company is supposed to have some done too for the same price coated. either way headers should be on order this week.

Update!
so the headers are finally getting coated and will be here in a few weeks. Later then I wanted but I think it was worth it. I ordered the long tubes but i'll post a pic of the Mids in case anyone else is interested.

A place called brp hotrods is making them, I don't think they are a sponser so pm me if you want details and contact info. they will be available in 2 weeks and will be coated. they also made 2in primaries for anyone making a drag only truck. they were designed on the old body style but i will be testing them on mine to see how they fit on the new body style s-10. oh and they fit with the stock ac system.

on to my other small updates, I notched for ac and tore her down a little farther, I'm done with the valve covers except for painting the stripes to match the engine block. I
ground off the old engine mounts, the guy put them on very well, too bad they aren't what I needed. I''ll be plating in the notch, fixing the oil pan notch, fixing my ac box and hopefully painting the firewall this week.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_3122.jpg

I still need to clear them and the rest of the covers, but I am happy with the way they came out. i'm ordering my gaskets head bolts and everything else I need to finish putting the engine togather, if anyone has a hookup at a tucson az dealer shoot me a pm. if not i'll be waiting a week till everything is shipped to me.

GMPartsdirect FTW. I ordered my head, valve cover and timing cover gaskets from them. Be sure you said you need 2 of the valve and head gaskets... I only got one :bang: But if your ordering enough parts to make it worth the 20 bux in shipping its a good buy. SDPC is also pretty good and Summitracing is good if you know exactally what your looking for. And only $10 for shipping and it takes about a week since they're in Nevada.

I may need to bring my valley, valve, and timing covers to you so you can brush them. It looks very clean and I think it'd add a nice touch just how it is.

Then you were getting hosed at the stealership.... "No Soup for You!!!"
That guy sales the balancer bolt for like $12 and he combines shipping on everything you buy at the same time. One of those Gm web sites for the gaskets will get you the gaskets for about $30 A piece. Thats what I paid with my Discount at The stealership... from now on I will just order in bulk from one of those web sites... The front and rear crank seals were a little cheper through them then what they gave me at the stelership....

Any one have the Part# for the 6.0L MLS style GM gasket???
I have it for the 4.8L / 5.3L GM MLS Gasket....
I also have the numbers for the front and rear crank seal if you need them...

I tried to clear the valley cover and timing cover but they are coming out with really bad texture/orange peel. anyone know how to get rattle-can high temp clear to come out smoothish?

and lastly I started shaving my intake. it will be painted to match the block and I will be adding an aluminum strip over the top next week to match my covers.

send them down to me, my valve covers are going to need special coil brackets, but I would need that anyways for clearance in my little truck. if your going to do this or have me do it you would want to relocate your coils so you would actually see your covers. you wouldn't need to, but it would look better imo.

everything with shipping was less then the dealer wanted for a set of head bolts before tax.

My house currently has 7 people in it because of a friend of the family is getting married, there for Greg now has his out of town family at his house. needless to say progress is slow. but onto my small update.

installed my valley cover, ls2 timing chain, ported oil pump, timing cover, new front and rear main seals, and got in my head gaskets, exhaust, and intake gaskets.

intake in primer with lots of holes
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_3143.jpg

intake all done.

and a little teaser
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_3163.jpg

I should have used darker primer on the intake so that the final color would have been closer to the block. But when I can spend the money i'll be getting edelbrocks new setup, or a fast so it's not a big enough deal for me to repaint. The heads are my old ones just sitting on there for mock-up, my heads are at the machine shop getting surfaced and jet washed. after they get back the long block will get assembled. other then that i'm just getting loose ends taken care of. i'm ordering the last of my parts on sunday and monday.

next weekend is a 3 day for me and my buddies that are working on Mia. As long as the sky refrains from falling progress will be made.

got my heads back from being milled, had .025 taken off wich ended up giving me a little over a 61 cc chamber. which means I will be running at just under 10.6:1 compression. got them assembled with my dual springs, and got them put on the engine. after all that I found out my pushrods that I just got last week were too long. so I called up texasspeed and had a new set 2 days later(I've only had good experiances with them). then I installed my pushrods and roller rockers, one od my rocker bolts got in a fight with my heads and the bolt won. after I pulled out the bolt with the threads from the head I went and found some helicoils and a tap and got that fixed. Then cut all my rocker arms down that were sticking into my intake ports.

http://www.race-cars.net/calculators/compression_calculator.html

get a set of ported 317 heads. the 72cc chamber is supposed to be perfect for ls1 turbo projects. you'll want to run dished pistons.

for your stroker build this is what you want
to run 9.5:1 get the 317 heads(72cc), 4" crank, stock ls1 bore (3.900), and a -10cc piston. with the stock .052 thickness gasket(go with whatever type you want, just that thickness)
to get 9:1 get the same setup with -15.5cc dish pistons.

for 9.5 to 1 you need a combined cc+dish of 82cc, for 9:1 you need 87.5 combined cc's. if you cant find the exact dish you want find the closest one(a hair larger) and mill your heads to get the the right amount of total cc's.

hope that helped.

I used a piece of thin sheet aluminum that work had in the scrap bin. cut and bend to fit then jb welded it into place. it really was pretty easy, you should be able to get a piece of aluminum from ace to do it for pretty cheap. you could also just use fiberglass and resin if you know how to use it.

No updates on the truck, I'll be gone this weekend for the wife and my aniversary. but updates will be coming soon.

Razor, you'll need a piston dish between -17cc and -22cc to get 9:1 9.5:1 if you want to run the 241's thats using stock gasket thickness. but if at all possible you will want to upgrade to 317's, they flow better then 241's, even when both are ported the same.

that sounds like a good plan. I still have one more chance with an f-body pan, but it's not looking great.

the rockers fit fine, between the cam and heads being milled I needed shorter pushrods. they are old style 1.8 yella terras, they look sexy and bring my lift to .59x and with my dual springs I don't have to worry about valve float. but I would only need to worry about that at 7000+ anyways.

HOPEFULLY!!(crosses fingers) I'll be finishing in a a months time, but that will mean alot of things going right and nothing so far has been anything close to that. headers are supposed to be done tomorrow, which means I should get them next week. by then my wiring should be done or close to it, and everything will be welded and ready to go.

but I'm still waiting on
-headers
-leafs
-crossmember
-traction bars
-oil pan

then I need to get the exhaust done, fab up an intake, get it tuned, and work out all the bugs.

I still have a long way to go....

I wish I could take you up on that offer, but unfortunately I have drill and I still have no parts. the only stuff I have is for my rear, and i'm taking most of it to work to press on the bearings. I'm pretty mad about everything taking so long, I started school this week so I will have no time till summer, and I plan on taking summer classes. the only time I can really give to the truck will be taking away from sleep. Oh well, I'll have plenty of time to sleep when I die, till then it's fair game I guess...

Its been a while since I have read your thread, but arent you having a company custom build you some long tubes?

lsx10
01-24-2009, 10:52 AM
not custom build, headman is building a set and i'll be working with them to work out any kinks with them. they will soon have 3 header options for the lsx s10 swaps. and all of them are better then anything else i've seen. current pefromance has a good set if you feel like paying 350 too much. but they arent tuned length.

I'll be going over my list tomorrow and ordering any last things I need to finish up, and hopefully getting some stuff done this next weekend. school have put my progress down to nothing, but I want this thing done, I saw a mustange fly by today and it pissed me off that I couldn't run that stupid pony down.

got in my headers from headman, long story short I got the long tubes cause the mids weren't done yet. they fit great even let you turn pretty well, unless you want ac. since this is my daily i'll be getting the mids from them intstead. oh and you would need to mod your trans cross member to clear the collectors.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_3280.jpg
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_3281.jpg

I test fit all the ones on the driver side just don't have pics, you will need to mod your brake lines, it wouldn't be difficult especially compared to the rest of this headache.

oh and in case anyone needed to know jareds cooling setup fits just fine with truck acc. I was pretty worried about those big fans but there is still a bit of clearance.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_3286.jpg

this last pic gave me some motivation, too bad I have to take it all back out. notch a hair more out of the ac notch, don't need to but it will make me more comfortable. weld it up, bolt in mounts, and put on oil pan. then it will go back in for good. I have some time tomorrow and most of saturday to work on this. sunday I'm going to firebird raceway!

I had the cops called on me tonight, I almost feel like a dick since I was grinding off my bumpstops at 11:30pm, but all they would have had to do was ask me to quiet down and I would have cleaned up. I mean really, why not? I would have stopped when they asked and cops really do have better shit to do. Ya it sucks... Never had them called on me YET!!! But did have one come through the neighbor hood while we pulling an engine. I guess your not supposed to Pull an engine out at 2 in the AM. Doesn't matter because it was at my buddies House and we always hang out with all the surrounding neighbors. well I got a few things done

got my oil pan and pickup tube. I didn't want to renotch the frame, and I didn't want to run a truck pan since I'm dropping her. I broke down and got the lh8 pan(h3a), and now I'm a little more broke. brp has this nifty little thing for a little insurance for sealing to the oil pump.

finally got jareds(currentperformance) cooling setup installed, dont follow the directions, just test fit it and the make your cuts for the mounts. looks great in there though.

Wash it with Hot Soapy water, Then use a plastic Adheasion promoter like Bull Dog. I noticed they started saleing it at the local Autozone and other automtive parts stores like 2 years or so ago. Before I would order the same stuff through the paint store at work.

Its basicaly like sealing the plastic. then you can put primer and paint on and it will stick. Thats How they paint New plastic bumpers and grills for cars and trucks that Have been Wrecked and need replacement parts.

Check it out when you get a chance...

*Subscribed* Of course I planned to come back and read the thread later, but you guys know how that goes...

Congrats on the super clean build so far!!! Any estimate as to how long until it's up and running? This thread is definately making me itch to graduate and start making some money so I can get to work on an LS2 or iron block 6.0 build in an ext. cab or, preferably, crew cab S-10. I'd like to get rid of the 4wd in a crew cab and lower it a tad. Eventually I'd like to put a 78mm turbo on it, but that invovles even more money.

sorry for the delayed reply, yes they are selling them, the long tubes wont fit with ac, you would have to reroute a primary to make it work. I set the motor too far back and had to elongate the holes in the mounts to move it forward enough to clear the ac box. I talked to brp and they designed new mounts that bolt into the stock frame holes so this wont be an issue for anyone else.

more of a sleeper?

the only things that will give this truck away is going to be the traction bars and rear tires. exhaust should be pretty smooth and quiet. I like things understated, no cowl hood, no huge rear tires, no stickers. just a little truck with a big dick.

it should just look like an s10 with a 2/3 drop and cheap rims. you will have to pop the hood or look under the truck to know what she really is.:secret2:

here she is with a new belt routed for the car style intake. if you do it like this you will need a spacer about 3/4 inches thick or a ton of washers, a longer bolt, and a belt that is 102 inches long to 102.5 inches long, any shorter or longer and it wont work. it took me 4 belts to find that out. 100 and 101 were both too short, and a 102.7 fit but didn't have enough tension on it.

so after fighting with my headers for a while I finally got them to fit with some cutting, grinding, welding, and a new steering shaft. they look great, but they didn't fit well on mine. the new bolt in mounts are supposed to help that, i have been talking to brp again to get this worked out.

I finally got my rear end finished, when I got it narrowed the shop welded an end on crooked, they fixed it for no cost though. I welded on the spring pads, cleaned and painted it to match the engine, got new e-brake shoes, ceramic pads, and new rotors. now Mia has 4 wheel disks, 3.73s with a posi, and traction bars.

she still has alot left but she's starting to come togather pretty well. I really hope to have her running mid august before school starts, but we'll see how that goes.

So the BRP's dont fit well?

nope, I thought I had it fixed by moving the engine up 3/4 of an inch, but then the primaries hit the ac box. but I also have the crappy mounts and the first headders off the line so they might have gotten better.

I also have the luck of someone who broke a mirror while walking under a ladder when a black cat was running in front of them.

btw do you have a build thread yet? that engine in your sig looks sick!

looking good dude keep it up

yup 8.8 with 3.73 and trak loc with carbon disks. should help with traction a little.

nope, very few of them came with it. the best bet is to find one out of a newer blazer with discs, the do a gear swap then add a posi.
total cost around 700-1000

I have around 550 in my 8.8 and it is stronger

the blazer brakes are a little better, but the explorer rear has 31 spline axles and a rebuilable posi stock. plus they are cheap and plentiful at junk yards, blazer 8.5 rears are few and far between, are only posi if they are 4wd(4wd axles are wider then 2wd), plus the stock posi is crap, 28 spline axles.

00Silv4.8- thanks for the compliment, she doesn't look as nice as alot of other builds on here, but not to shabby for a homemade truck.

I have this thread...http://performancetrucks.net/forums/showthread.php?t=442145...It is a talking about my motor plans.

I will probably continue this thread as the build thread. I plan to buy all the parts and then begin the swap. Once the 4.3 comes out, Im hoping to finish it all within a week or two. I will be using a week of my vacation to do it so I still get paid. :hump:

Keep me updated on the BRP's, if they came out with a better design. I want to order the ones that fit the best, no matter the cost.

I spent half of yesterday and most of my free time today helping my buddy put long tube headers and off road Y pipe on his 2000 trans am, so I didn't get to work on my truck till 6:30.

well I got half done putting my gas tank in today and then I ran out of welding wire. at 8:30 at night on sunday.... so I sanded and painted my inner fenders to match the firewall and called it a night. I still have to move all my furniture out of my house tonight so that the carpet can get installed tomorrow morning.

I have tomorrow off so I'll get more wire and get all this stuff finished. tomorrow i'm picking up a battery and a relocator kit and tossing my battery in my bed, or under it if I can find some space.

for now it will be in the bed behind the right wheel well. I have a blazer tank now where my spare tire was, i'll post pics of that soon. I want to find space for it under the bed outside the frame rail in the rear right corner, but that will make it a pita to get to the rear leaf spring bolt and to get to the battery itself. I got everything but the cable which i'm picking up on the way home from work today, it wont be going in for a while though.

an easy place to put it is outside the framerail behind the passenger seat, plenty of room to work with and it wont get in the way of anything.

Your built looks freaking awesome man, great job!!

I'm putting a 5.3L in my 85 GMC 1/2 ton pickup, and was wanting to use an LS1 intake. I'm glad to see that it CAN be used with the truck accessories. If you don't mind me asking, where does the "spacer about 3/4 inches thick or a ton of washers, a longer bolt" go? And I think you said something about needing to swap out water pumps. What vehicle is the new pump for?

Thanks in advance!

here she is with a new belt routed for the car style intake. if you do it like this you will need a spacer about 3/4 inches thick or a ton of washers, a longer bolt, and a belt that is 102 inches long to 102.5 inches long, any shorter or longer and it wont work. it took me 4 belts to find that out. 100 and 101 were both too short, and a 102.7 fit but didn't have enough tension on it.

for the water pump you need either an ls1 pump with a truck pulley(swap out for your old one). of a water pump off a 2007 and up truck. I used the newer truck water pump. if you use the truck one try to find the throttle body with the smaller linkage on the side(sorry I dont know the year).

the spacer and longer bolt goes onto the alternator bracket. it moves the idler pulley from beside the alternator to right below it. if you look at the picture of mine then at your stock one you will see where I moved the idler pulley from. then just cut off where the idler pulley was.

also I used all thread to make a stud to go there since I couldnt find the right length bolt.

well I picked up more wire and got the last of my tank mounts finished up, cut the frame for the filler tube, got the rest of the battery relocating stuff, and relocated the charcoal canister. also cleaned, primed, and painted the inner fenders to match the firewall. before I put the front end together I will be painting everything in the engine bay to match the firewall.

I also got news today that my wiring will be here on wednesday!

and on to the pics, the tank sits nice and high but still clears the bed without cutting any of the supports.

so I took a few days off work this weekend to get my truck in running or close to running condition. but then...

-a pipe broke in my house and is leaking on the carpet I had installed 10days ago.
-my wife brought home a dog that reaked havoc throughout my house and yard.
-my mom got addmitted to the hospital and needs surgery.
-some of the part I needed wont be here when they should have been(again)
-my ac is freezing up and needs to be serviced

all of this took place in the last few days, out of a 4 day weekend I might have 2 to work on my truck if i'm really lucky..

well school started and she isn't running yet. so close but so far

Hooked up the walbro into my stock sending unit, I ran the fuel lines to the filter, still need to run the last line to the engine.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_3900.jpg

and now to announce change number 793

I got another new intake! My buddy had an issue with it and was pressed for time so I swapped him my ls6 intake for this baby. I dont have any pictures of it when I first got it, the first thing I did was clean it up and paint it the same color as the last 2 I had.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_3898.jpg

then instead of getting the 85mm tb I ported the intake out to a 90mm and picked up a bluemaxxx 90mm. there are more wet kit options and it should be worth a few ponies.

I had to pull the heads back off to lap the valves in. that sucked...

but I got the valves all sealed up. got the heads back on, got the headers back on, dipsticks in, intake and throttle body on, rails and injectors in. wiring done, and most of the front end done with.

now to catch up on what went on before starting it. many trips to the parts store and a little fab work to make this big square peg fit in a round hole. excuse the dirty pics, the dust makes my engine bay look like crap.

first off the radiator hoses. these are numbers from orilies/checker auto and with a little trimming they fit better then most hoses made for stock trucks.

upper hose

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_4146.jpg

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_4145.jpg

lower hose

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_4143.jpg

numbers, sorry I dont remember which was top and wich was bottom. but these will fit currents radiator with a 07 and up truck water pump. the lower hose should fit anhttp://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_4153.jpgy truck water pump.

next up is spark plug wires. after i raised the coils my stock wires didnt fit, so I got a set of make-your-own and cut them to fit

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_4147-1.jpg

I installed my brake system, computer, and most everything else, in the engine bay.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_4160.jpg

installed my condencer again after trimming so that I can get some lines onto it when I install my ac in the summer. then installed my tranny cooler, its a b&m plate style cooler.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_4159.jpg

I had some questions about installing the filler neck so here are some pics and info on that.

-I notched the frame for the filler neck, then welded in reinforcements so it was still solid.

-I took some measurements and went to my local exhaust shop and had them bend me a 2" tube. I had them cut it 30" long and do a 90 degree bend in the middle, then trimmed each side at home to my liking.

-I cut a hole when I wanted my filler neck to enter my bedthat was large enough for me to work in a little.

-I welded on the top of my old filler neck onto the tube at an angle of around 40-45 dergrees so it pointed inside the bed. be sure to weld on the little vent tubeon the side or it will be a pain to fill up.

-I ran a soft line on the vent side from the top by the filler neck down to the tank, get some large fuel hose, do not use heater hose or it will deteriorate quickly.

-I used the stock rubber ends off the stock blazer tank to connect the exhaust tube to the tank.

-once I had everything in place I marked where I wanted to put some tabs and welded them on to keep the new filler neck in place. I welded nuts to the tabs then welded the tabs to the filler neck so that I wouldnt have to worry about holding a nut on the inside of the bed while turning a bolt on the other side.

all in all it did not take me much time once I had it in my head what I wanted to do. working by myself i did it in an evening and total cost was less then $50. it fits with plenty of clearance too.

onto the pics

and lastly the filler neck in the bed

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_4139.jpg

to do list

-install drive shaft

-bleed brakes

-install grill, lights and bumper.

-tune

-make intake

-intall wideband

-fab exhaust

-find bedcover

-burn tires off

drove it to school last night and drove it to work this morning. its running very poorly because of the tune, cruses fine but I cant take it over 3500 rpms. and if I go WOT(wide open throttle) it floods itself. tranny is leaking like a sob from the front seal so I need to change that out. and right now my exhaust is just muffles clamped onto my collectors so its loud as hell, that will get worked out this weekend.

it still felt great to drive it. i'm getting tons of looks in it.

I really wanted to tune this thing myself but i'm behind on school right now so I really dont have time to learn how to do that right now. I'll try to get this thing tuned before the end of the week, have to find a shop and get some prices to see if I even can.

well the truck is back on jackstands and the tranny is on the garage floor. I had a tq converter made for my truck that was supposed to adapt the older style 4l60e to my 6.0. and it doesnt fit. tried to get ahold of fuddle racing who built it for me and they apparently went under, their site is down and the phone number has been disconnected.

going to see if I can find a converter shop or machine shop that can lengthen the pilot on the converter to make one of my tq converters fit.

update.

got everything back in late tuesday, installed the spacer and 80e flexplate, got the converter spacing right, new seals, and a new shaft o-ring.

there was a puddle of tranny fluid on the floor after a minute of running it. this thing is going to be the death of me.

so tranny is back on the floor of the garage, I looked at it as good as I could while it was running and its coming out of the front seal. hope it doesnt run too much to fix, Ii'm going to take my 2 converters and the tranny to a shop on monday and have them find out what will work.

have them swap the front parts out and get a 300mm bell housing and bolt it up just like a normal truck.

are you kidding me... why? If you swap out the drum, input shaft and the bellhousing you basically have a 300mm LS transmission... then you don't have to worry about all the fitment crap that has had you dead in the water a few times.

took the tranny in on monday, they put in a new front pump bushing and seal kit.

put the tranny back in today, it still leaks...

taking it to the shop tomorrow, i'm sick of pulling the tranny, i've done it 4 times now. I'm pretty sure my tq converter is somehow warped. dont know how, but thats gotta be it. brand new flexplate, brand new seals, i'm sick of this..

Holy hell, dude. I just joined to tell you this build is amazing. It makes me want to scrap my LT1S10. My truck looks like crap compared to yours!

Here it is, 4AM, and I just finished reading this entire thread. I am in awe of your attention to detail, fab skills, and paint work.

well guys I have good and bad news, the good news is that she will be on the road soon. the bad news is she will be under the power of a mild cam 5.3

this project started as a daily build and got a little out of hand, I'm fe up with trying to fix the tranny issues and the 6.0 is getting a new home and will be backed by either a built 65e or more likely an 80e. more details and pics to come this week.

mia is getting a 5.3 with a texas speed old man cam and matching valve train upgrades but nothing much else, also she will be getting the proper tranny and a 2600-2800 stall. her new heart is in the garage, and the last few parts are on the way.

the 6.0 is going in the new project..... details to come.
