Default awd or 2wd with stall? about to get a tbss

i'm about to get an 08 tbss, but i'm not sure if i want to go with awd or 2wd.
the 2wd is a lot cheaper, but i was wondering if it was worth going with the awd and something like a 3k stall torque converter.

with the awd and a 3k stall, will it hook with street tires from a WOT dig?
what about the drivetrain - will it handle it?

i've done some searching and it seems like the transmissions are reportedly weak. i'm really more concerned about the rest of the drivetrain and how it handles a stalled WOT launch. if it's not going to handle it, i'll go for the 2wd for a few thousand less.

it would also be seeing a small 75-100rwhp shot (but not out of the hole).
any input?

First, there are better sites than this for TBSS. We are pro truck actually. Do a google. I almost bought one but decided I really needed a truck just to haul occasionaly. I went 4wd and have done 4400 rpm launches in 4wd with no issues after tranny upgrades. As I understand it though from the research I did on 2wd vs awd, the 2wd is the favored child and about .2 or so faster on a stocker. That would change with an overpowered truck. If you are just doing a small shot, go 2wd. If you are talking 550 to the wheels, consider AWD for the street. I am quicker than a 2wd on the street which is where I live, but I give up some at the track due to a higher weight vehicle. But, I am able to launch on the street on street tires like a bat out of hell.

awd TBSS = scattered tranny parts.

2wd TBSS = scattered tranny parts about half as much as AWD.

Either way, you'll need a dustpan.

Good luck!

<- doesn't have the stock trans anymore

i'm looking for right around a 13.5-13.6 with a stall (what other bolt-ons would i need?) and 13.0x's (or better) on spray.

it won't be a track suv, but it will see the occaisional wot punch n' pass the "luxury sport" on the street.
i'm not going to get too crazy with the spray either. maybe a bottle every couple months.
i'll probably go with a hidden dry shot with hsw microedge window/rpm/lean switch and hsw interface to add fuel and take out timing. maybe a 15lb bottle with nitrogen push system and a remote opener. this is pretty much similar to what i'm running on my camaro ss.
i drove an awd tbss and it hooked so good i felt like it could use a good torque converter.
i gotta keep it streetable as it's going to be my girl's dd. but i also want to make sure she's got enough passing power to shut down the random eurotrash driving he-bitch on the way to the mall.

knowwhatimean?

is the reason you'd gow ith 2wd due to weight, price, or for hate of traction?

thanks again

you should be able to get mid 13's with a stall no prob.you can get away with a stall for awhile but the tranny will hate you from day one,a built tranny would be best .for the tranny go with a cooler and servos.
a cai and good tune will go good with what your wanting to do

as far as 2wd,hate of traction yes but a dead hook on the street in this thing is killer
