tuning for mods
#1
I'm going to do a cam swap, LT headers, and stall in the next few weeks. My concern is that I'll have to send my ECM for a retune. I read about everyone working on the tunes for weeks at a time. How close will my mail order tune be? Should I go ahead and get HP tuners so I can do a data log? My truck is a DD so it will be a pain to have to send my ECM away several times to get it tuned correctly.

Usually the tuner will send you a tuned computer, then you send yours back to them as a core.

Yes I've already done this as I currently have a Wheatley Tune. I'm just wondering after the mods how close will my tune be after sending it off again. Will it take several times to get it right?

It could take a few times to get it right. But with a guy like Charlie tuning it he should be able to get pretty damn close on the first try based on your cam. Just from sheer experience. But tuning is exactly that "Tuning". It takes time to get right and every vehicle is different. There may be a few bugs to work out, but all n all he should be able to get you squared away in the first try by using a tune from a previous set up that has your mods.

Depends. A good tuner can usually get it close, but datalogging is the best way to do it. Most tuners can tune it to be close, but you never know when your combination of parts might make the tune need to be readjusted.
As stated above, Charlie usually does good with mailorder tunes so he should be able to use his experience and get you a good tune.
