I have a 79 chevy pickup with a blown engine, so I picked up an 86 suburban from a friend to rob the engine, trans(700r4) and rearend. I am wondering how difficult it is going to be to take the computer that controls some of the transmission functions to put into the pickup? Is any of the wiring in the main harness? How much?

The only thing you need to really get is a TCC lock up kit. Bowtie Overdrives offers one, Painless offers one, and I am sure lots of other places do as well. An 86 is a good choice too, because you can maintain your factory speedo! So good call on that one, plus with the axle from the sub your speedo will be right on too.

You will need to pop off the pan to install the kit, and then the rest of it will go under the dash. I put a 90 burb 700R4 in a 79 once. It worked really well!

Right on. Anyone know what length the driveshaft needs to be?

I don't recall how long the one I used was, but I found one in the Junk Yard out of a mid 80s 700R4 long bed. ( or a short bed if thats what you have )

Yes I have a short bed. Does anyone like yearone or lmc sell new driveshafts?

Measure everything, and take your old shaft to a shop and have it lengthened or shortened. What ever you need. Probably save you some coin over a new shaft.
