Default Doing a clutch job on a 97 Ford Ranger, need some advice.

I will be doing this for my father-in-law, it's a 97 4x4 3.0L ranger. If and after I get the exhaust unbolted from the manifolds. Should I remove the trans and transfercase as one unit or seperate them? I haven't done a 4x4 yet, this will be interesting. Any other advice on this subject?

Thanks.
