Default Nelson Tune opinions wanted

Hello,

I have a 2007 NBS GMC Sierra Crewcab, Vmax 6.0 with 3.73's.

I have the Edge Evolution programmer. I like it, but not enough. I am seriously considering a Nelson tune. Does anyone have any experience or opinions? I would only being doing the "Light Mods" tune since my truck is all stock with the exception of a GMPP CAI. I do not have any intention of doing any bolt-ons such as headers or anything else except maybe a catback exhaust. I have the 4L70E tranny, do I need to worry about that being left stock? I do not want to have to modify the tranny and risk voiding my warranty, but I do not want to neglect it and burn it up either. I have heard upgrading to Vette servos and/or a shift kit is recommended, depending on the aggressiveness of the tune.

They also told me the dealer will not know I have a tune, but they could reflash it and overwrite it, in which case Nelson will re-tune for free. No biggie there, but I do NOT want the dealer to know I have a custom tune. Can someone confirm this for me? Is it really undetectable? I realize if they do not have a reason to look, they won't, but what if my tranny blows up, will they investigate before warrantying it?

Thanks in advance for any and all info you can provide.

Also, does anyone know if they use HP Tuners? I forgot to ask.

Unless their really good at reading graphs, which most the techs have no idea what they are looking at, they would have no idea. I had my truck in dealer a few times with all sorts of stuff and I never once had a problem.

The dealer will not know, Yes allen uses HPtuners. I have dealt with allen (Nelson Performance)allot and he knows his ****, If you want a custom tune In my opinion I would say call Nelson Performance. Even with very few mods to your truck you will notice a very nice gain with a custom tune.

Thought he locked his tunes ?
Someone said one time , that a dealership could but would take hours of looking just to find so doubt they would .

Was told yesterday he does NOT lock his tunes. With the "light Mods" tune, they will re-tune for N/C if the dealer overwrites it. Not going to worry about the dealer finding it. IF I were to have a major tranny/engine issue, I can always have them send me a set of stock tuned modules prior to bringing it in.

Or ask him to send you a PCM with Tune and keep your current PCM .
I know in the past he locked his PCMs , had a friend that had one and wanted to start tuning for himself , had to ask Nelson to unlock for him .
Maybe he quit locking them ?

He tunes mine, If you have a way of logging he can get you real close to what you want. I would keep your stock pcm and have him send you a new one.
