How many miles and how long have you been doing it.
I have never worked more than a 15 minute drive to any Job I have had.
I have a friend who offered me a Job 2 hrs drive away.
Right now I work 12 hrs every day, I don't have to work that many hours I just do to pay for my Hobbies, This other job is only an 8 hour day plus two hours drive each way still equals a 12 hour day but my pay would go from 22.00 dollars an hour to 44.50 an hour.
Just want to here some opinions.

So you would make about $147 more a day (if your getting OT at your current job). Do you have a good commuting car? What's your commuting cost gona be? Do you like to drive? How is traffic for the drive?

im in construction so it varies from day to day but it is never less than 20miles to work from home. and can as much as 50miles. doesnt really bother me but there is very little traffic. if its much more than the 50 i get paid from the time i leave the house so that makes it better.
been doing it for about a year and a half
you might consider getting a hotel room and staying mon-wed there go home on wed. night and then go back and stay til fri. then come home on weekends
or if you end up staying with the job, move closer to the job

don't really have a commuting car, but my Jeep gets 21 mpg
I like to drive, but commuting is different than drive someplace to have fun.
I will miss most traffic.
around my area people commute to the Bay area all the time, up to 3 hrs in stop and go traffic. So commuting is pretty popular here.
I would probably like this job much better, plus it will be in a trade that I can use the rest of my life VS warehouse work I am doing right now.
I just hate starting new jobs, I have only had two jobs since getting out of the Military in 1986. one for 11 years and my current job of 10 years. Plus I would be going from working graveyard to days.

I drive about 45 minutes each way to work and it's not bad at all, you get used to it for the most part. There are always days where you wished you could just skip the commute. I work hours that let me miss the worst traffic also so that helps.
You can always move if the commute gets to ya.

I drove an easy 45 mins up to about an hour and 15 for a while. I did it for about 6 years then started my own business so my distance doesn't help me anymore lol.
It wasn't so bad really.Good way to wake up lol.
I say if it's that much of a pay increase i could deal with it for sure.

I think what I am going to do is change my days off at my current job from Friday and Saturdays to Tuesdays and Wed and work for my friend on my days off my regular job for a few months and see how I like it.

If you have the luxury of doing that then I would definitely try it out. Do you get paid OT over 40 at both jobs? Would this other job be a long term one, as in being able to retire from it? What will you be doing at the new job? If you really think you will like the new job alot better and it could benefit you in other aspects of life then it sounds like a good deal. Its been my experience though, working for a friend isnt a very good deal though. If you have problems at work they bleed over into your personal friendship and you could lose a good friend. If you did like the job would you move closer? There are alot of things to consider before jumping off the deep end and it sounds like you are trying to do your research before making a final decision. FYI working 7 days a week gets old
I have worked 6 days a week for the last year with maybe half a dozen 2 day weekends and a one week vacation and Im about to go crazy but Im working for my hobby too, if I wasnt trying to get a new truck that is fairly expensive I wouldnt be putting in the hours I am. Best of luck to you in whatever you decide.
