Default Torque Converter Questions

OK here is it. I finally got some track time on my truck and finally got a feel for my truck. It was a good experience. I am not that concerned about the 60 footer yet. I know I can get that down with practice. What concerns me is that it pulls hard first and second gear, but as soon as get into third gear my truck falls flat on its face, stops pulling bad. I notice the rpms go down to like 4000 rpm's and then i step on the brake and it goes back up to 5000 rpm's. Is my TC going out, can this be corrected with tuning.

Are you tuned? I believe the TC locks in 3rd at hight MPH? What MPH are you going into 3rd?

It does sound like your converter is locking and is a tuning issue to me. Start there first. Vince

I believe stock settings have them locking on the high end of 3rd to the 3-4 transition (I'll have to check my stock files). Some like it that way for dyno numbers, some like it unlocked for 1320' runs to avoid low rpms. Readjusted mine not to lock until 4th and remain unlocked if @ WOT.
