Hey Folks,

Thinking of joining the crowd. I would love to park a TBSS next to 99 Covette Convert.

What issues are people having with theirs? I have heard there are MAJOR issues with the trannies? 1 site had all the owners saying it will happen that the tranny will blow up.

What are you folks having for issues? How many miles on your TBSS?

So checking around it seems that there is a Big issue with the tranny. IS there anyway to avoid the issue? Can reprogramming the PCM help or is it just a matter of needing to rebuild the tranny right? by that I mean an aftermarket tranny or rebuild it with a good tranny shop?

Any advice would be great!

I went ahead and built the transmission before anything happened to it. There are plenty of others that are just doing servos and coolers to make them last longer. If you plan to race it then I would just build it and be done with it before it breaks. They are a great vehicle!!!

Hey thanks for the reply....2005SSR6Speed.

I would be looking just for a daily driver and maybe some autocross events where you are on a course made up with cones.

It sounds like the dealers would not fix the issue properly. Just put in another Tranny that has the same under performing parts.

I have had the same issue with my Corvette, had to go aftermarket to get the proper fix instead of the dealers for a known issue.

Anyone else have to rebuild the tranny them selves OR has anyone else not had any issues? How many miles without any tranny issues?

Once you start adding more power is when the tranny is on limited time. tuning, shift kit, and servos will help the life but if you plan on adding more power a built tranny is a must.

A good tune and you will never have tranny problems unless you really get into beefing up the engine, in which case you should beef up the trans too. I have 10K miles on my AWD, tuned it myself, it's awesome never had a problem but it could still benefit from a shift kit for manual shifting (manual shifting is worthless in stock form). Honestly, the stock tune sucks ***, don't judge it by the way it drives stock.
