Default Found It!!!

Well I dropped off my truck's driveshafts this afternoon to be balanced thinking that was the problem of my terrible vibration... well, it wasnt. as soon as I took the straps off the rear most U joint the cap fell off and the needle bearings came out, in the form of a fine black dust LOL... the U joint itself was beat into a weird oblong mess and the cap was split down the side. I'm going to have a new one put in and the whole assembly balanced just to make sure everything kosher in there.

These have been in there for a little over a year... anyone else eating U joints??? Shouldnt they last longer???

I had one go like that after only a few months on an old truck....Only it was a lack of grease that killed it... They don't last too long on just that petroleum jelly packing stuff that comes in them from the parts store... Forgot to put grease in it after the tranny swap and it was a $30 bastard U-joint to mate an older driveshaft to a newer rear end yoke.

my rear U joint is weird like that too... one side is a little bit bigger than the other... I greased the hell out of these when I put them in. and I havent seen any signs of grease slinging out of it... no telling... hopefully she'll be back on the road by tomorrow...

no I havent tried moving the carrier on it. I could try to do that though to resolve whatever slight vibrations are left in there...

The shop where its at is putting new Spicers in it. I would have done that little job myself knowing thats what it was but, I didnt at the time, then the one side came apart in the parking lot of the shop where it was at so I kinda had to leave it where it was hopefully this solves the problem.

from what I've dug up, the Spicer brand is about the best you can go unless you go to a 1350 series.
