Considering getting one. How are they when it comes to towing? What kinda gas mileage can be expected? Any recurring problems to watch for? Pro's/Cons of the AWD vs. RWD...

from what i hear 15mpg is the average from lead footed drivers

 

Well, I'm actually not lead footed in my DD. Also, is that mostly highway or city?

It needs more power from the factory. Other than that, it was my dream chevy truck that fit my lifestyle (X-cab for the kids, AWD for traction, loaded with every factory option [less OnStar - personal choice], clean looks, and still a fully functional truck. I plan on keeping it for a lifetime,...just some "modifications" along the way

I don't have an SS, but a VHO is close....

I have towed with mine, car trailer with surge brake, plenty of power with a 6.0 (after mods), it was hard to do just the recommended speed limit.

For my 2wd and 3.73 gears, I have an overall average mpg of 17.1 (per the on board computer) and have regularly gotten 20-21 mpg on the freeway (flat at 65 mph). However, this level of mpg requires mods, if you get one this best mod you can do are headers and a custom tune (my tune added 1 mpg on top of the other mods). See the October issue of Hot Rod, this combination added nearly 50 hp at the crank!

The only problems I have had are covered by Service Bullentins: slow turn clunk; and steering shaft lube. The other thing is the paint wore off my steering wheel radio buttons. All three were cover under warrenty.

I choose the 2wd mainly because AWD /4WD would have added about $3,000 to my base cost and would have lowered my gas mileage. The 2wd do have traction issues if the road is slightly wet and even more so with mods. I fairly sure that the AWD come with 4.10 gears, the VHO and V-Max with 3.73 gears (with 4.10 gears were available on the newer ones)

This is my fifth Chevrolet truck and the best one yet!
