2001 Silverado stereo wiring difficulties
#1
Hi,
I have a 2001 Silverado ECSB. I just put an aftermarket head unit in and it works, but I can't figure out how to run any cables down from the back the the passenger footwell for wiring my subs/sirius tuner. It seems like the whole dash is one giant AC duct. Does anyone have a (detailed) description of how to run the wires. I searched for something like this but I didn't find anything, but if this has already been answered please point me to it.

Unhook the glvoe box so that it falls all the way open. Then, get a friend with small hands to shove his hand through the back, while you are feeding wires from the front. It's 10x easier to do with the HU out.

Sweet, thanks guys... It looks like that is going to work. I figured out where the wires need to go with your help. If I only had a midget to help run wires...
Now I need to hook up my sirius tuner. I'm planning on running the antenna wire through the CHMSL on the back of the cab. What trim pieces do I gotta take off to get the headliner down enough to run wires? And what are you guys' thoughts on sealing the brake light with the wire running in there. I don't want any water to get in anywhere it is not supposed to.

you dont have to put the antenna outside of the truck. i have mine velcro'd to the dash and it works just the same as it did when it was on top of the truck. i took it off the top of the truck becase the magnet wasnt holding when i took it thru the carwash and it was scratching the hell out of the top. just make sure the wiper doesnt block it.

just have to pull the door rubber seals off and you should be able to push the wire up in the headliner.....just use some clear silicone to cover where the wire runs into the 3rd brake light, make sure you get enough so it squeezes out a little when you put the brake light back in...
all this being said though, sirius is not nearly as picky as xm so like stated above you could just put the antenna on your dash and it should be fine for 90% of the time.....

It's because it's magnetic. It doesn't "know" that it's on the roof. It'll just slide around if its not secured. Try a drop of hot glue underneath it, it'll keep it in place and when you want to take it off it won't hurt your finish.
