Default Guys w/ V-tech s/c's on 4.8L I have a question.

I was wondering what kind of gas mileage you guys are getting both hiway and city? I was thinking about buying a truck that has a s/c but worried it's going to suck gas. Also, I dont plan to drag race it so i was wondering how long the motor will hold up in the long run with the s/c. Will i have to be rebuilding the motor before i hit 100k miles? Will i even get that life span? This would be my daily driver. (300 miles week).

The truck is at a dealer and only has 17k miles on it. Its a 2004.

thanks

I'm definitely a chevy guy, but have you considered a Lightning or Harley truck? I am very new to fi btw. I thought seriously for months and ended up going turbo... get it back today or tomorrow. Check out my thread 5.3 with sts 67. Drag times to follow. Then the endless cycle begins.

depending on how much boost you run, how much you have your foot in it, It should hold up a very long time. The problem with buying a truck with mods on it , you don't know if the person before you abused it.

I am assuming the v-tech stands for vortech? If so, it shouldn't be much different than my procharged 4.8. Under normal driving conditions you are not in boost so its basically the same as stock. I could probably get around 18 or so city if I tried, but the way I drive I get around 16 city. Don't do much highway driving, but I would assume close to 20, not 23 or 24 though.

Although I do have a mail order tune that is on the conservative side, so I am sure I am using more gas than need be. If it was street/dyno tuned, I sure my mileage would be a little better.
